Bowling is Fun
« on: January 28, 2017, 08:31:19 AM »
I bowl in a competitive mixed league that always features numerous 300/800's a year.  300/800 in this league is no big deal - it only becomes a big deal when the house record is in danger.  I'm sure a big group that post here are in or have bowled in leagues like this.  So anyway, there's a league that bowls next to us that is not as competitive/high scoring.

Last night, my team was on the end pair that was next to our league neighbors.  One of the bowlers in the other league on the pair next to us had the front 6, throws #7 and goes nuts - starts doing an awesome Rocky Balboa impression with a dance like twirl on the approach.  Dude was super excited with each and every strike he threw.  And so was the rest of the league.  By the time he had the front 9, his whole league stopped bowling and was watching him.

First shot in the 10th - he leaves a flat 10 and falls to the ground in mock pain.  He gets up smiles, laughs it off, and the rest of his league mates give him high 5's.

I can't remember the last time a front 9 was celebrated in any league I've bowled in.  I know I get pissed when I go front 9 and don't finish it out with all 12.

Bowling is fun. The key is to remember that.

(I just hope it didn't cost him any pots - I kid...)

This is a post we need. No matter who you are, you initially fell in love with bowling because it was fun. Days where you couldn't wait to get to the center, do work, have fun.

For me, when I am in a center, I am in another place than where I am outside in the world. The parameters of what I'm supposed to do are the same, playing field is similar, and there is an air of mystery as to what invisible obstacles there are out there beyond the foul line. In an uncertain world, the confines of a center were somewhat certain for me. The silence before the machines come on. The sound of one person practicing off to the side of the counter. Warning up, placing your stuff on the rack, getting your tools ready for another go at it.

Politics is what has soured us on bowling, not bowling itself.

I need to go to the center today.

Bowling for me is FUN when I feel I bowl close to my expectations.
Most of my team mates think it's just something to do in the winter months and only look forward to the pot games and potential money.
For me I would have to consider bowling as more like an addiction.
The harder I try the harder they fall

When it ceases to be fun we should quit.  I work full time in a bowling center, so it's especially good when I'm there and not having to work. ;D

I LOVE our sport. I bowl in 2 leagues in different houses. High school bowling is a very competitive sport here in Bergen County (NJ). A teammate has a son who bowls for his high school and also participates in a traveling league. I watch my friend's son bowl whenever possible. Being a spectator to good competitive bowling for me is almost as much fun as participating.

Like Doom, I feel at home in the bowling center where I forget about the outside world.

When I am bowling like doggy doo doo, I use to get super mad. This year, however, I came to the realization that it shouldn't be that way. We all bowl awful games at some point. And we didn't originally pick up the game to win. We picked it up because somebody we are friends with got us into it. We bowl with friends, and THAT is truly what matters. I start having fun the minute I walk in the door and don't stop having fun until I leave. It is my escape from everything else in life. I don't even check my phone at league anymore. Hell, there are nights where I have so much fun joking around with everyone else on the league that I couldn't care less what my score is

I"ve been and seen these things before and it's refreshing. The league next to use (not current) would yell and scream if someone picked up a 4 9 split. We could hear it from the other end and get informed by the waitress what had happened. The folks in my league would smile,"Wow", and/or clap for that person they didn't see pick up the split. When I did pick up that same split, I get one or two high fives, and a "that's it! keep it clean." LOL

A lot of high handicap leagues are fun.

I bowl with my dad and uncles. I walked away for about 8 years, I was asked to join again this year and I am absolutely having a great time.

After so many years of being no good,  I made the conscience effort of being patient and to allow the process to play itself out.  Now that I've learn to play the game in all ways,  it's fun again and that's the most important thing; To continue to learn all areas of the game,  and have fun doing so,  and it is a great way to get out of the everyday grind of life.  I love this game.
