Any Mongoose Lifter Owners?
« on: October 18, 2009, 11:13:49 AM »
My uncle just got one of these and since I know next to nothing about supports, I'm asking questions for him. For those who have one, will it eventually form into sort of a cupped shape the more he uses it? The package says it's designed to conform to your hand after some use, but I don't know if that means the padding/material loosening up or the support becoming less straight. Input appreciated.

I don't think the support itself is going to bend unless you bend it yourself. I have one of the Lifters but I don't use it anymore. I think they're talking about the padding...

The padding will conform AROUND YOUR WRIST and thus become more comfortable. I use the Mongoose Equalizer fairly often but sell both quite a bit. That's been my experience.

I had one of the mongooses, used it for a bit (3) weeks and noticed my thumb hurting in weird places.

Tell whoever is using this to be very alert to my opinion that it would not hurt  to have the pitches checked and adjusted when going to any brace not just one brand.

I don't use the Equalizer, but I do use the Lifter.  The Lifter has steel in it and I bend it slightly so that my wrist is slightly cupped.  It is comfortable in fit, but it does get hot and does absorb sweat.  Wash it every so often because it will get smelly!  I do like the fit, feel, and support it gives.

If you do bend it, be careful about bending it back and forth because the metal will weaken and might eventually break.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I thought the support might change shape a bit because my uncle told me about a friend of his whose Lifter is more cupped than his new one. I thought that's what the product description meant about conforming to one's hand. I bowled with them earlier today, and turns out the guy shaped the support a little himself so the it would be slightly cupped.

I second this, as well. My thumb started hurting and I started getting nerve-related weakness at the base of the thumb. It will change your pitches/span if you plan on using it.
