Where have all the Gamblers gone?
« on: November 18, 2005, 12:40:04 AM »
In th 80's and 90's everyone bowled for money. Leagues were full with pot bowling and 20-30 brackets plus plenty of side action. Pot games for hours after league was done. Every weekend pot games went on where everyone lased up the shoes regardless of average, went toe to toe for the cash! Today things have changed. Pot games are non existent. You are lucky to get enough bowlers for 4 brackets, and side action maybe a couple of bucks a game with one or two bowlers. Is the decline in bowling membership really the result of the decline in gamblers who bowl? I have been told by many that without the money, what's the point.

Come to Chicago there are many leagues that have a lot of money available to win each week.  In my league I have the capability to win up to about 2,000 a week in pots if I were to clean up on a particular day.  I think my league has like 30 different pot games.  It's a tough place to bowl because they are always changing the pattern and each pattern is tough.  No blocked conditions at this league.
