moving to the Phoenix area.

 I'm moving to the Avondale/Phoenix area and wondering about any good bowling centers.   If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Tri City is out in Avondale.  Decent Brunswick house.  Not sure about leagues etc, but the local scratch association goes there at least once a year for a tourney.  There are 3 or 4 centers up in the Sun City area that would be the next closest.

Tri City is the only center in the Avondale area. They just remodeled so it's pretty nice. Also there's Uptown Alley in Surprise that's a little bit of a drive, but it's worth it. Easily one of the nicest centers I've ever bowled in

Don't let them fool you.  Tri City is on the wrong side of I-10 in Avondale.  Spend 15 minutes in the car and go to Uptown in Surprise or AMF Peoria to do your bowling.  There is also Brunswick Desert Sky on the west side of Phoenix, but that neighborhood is also pretty rough.

The place in Surprise is about 6 months old and easily the nicest bowling center I've ever been in that is not in a Casino.

Not sure there is really a "wrong side" of I-10 in Avondale.

That bowling center was in a bad neighborhood when they built it 25 years ago and still is.

Brunswick Zone Via Linda in Scottsdale has a really awesome scratch league on Monday nights... and it's only a couple of miles away from an Indian Casino if you want to gamble away your bracket winnings!

I guess it really depends on what you are looking for, close proximity, good neighborhood, or good leagues.  There are about 27 centers in the Phoenix metro area ( about a 50 mile diameter circle )  If you are looking for good neighborhoods, that vast majority are in tougher areas than Avondale.  There are good leagues at Via Linda, Brunswick Zone Mesa, and several other centers.   

I would suggest picking up a copy of the local bowling paper which is available in almost every center.  Every issue has a list of all the centers and a map.

Hey Lefty! I too am a lefty and enjoy being different when bowling, especially here  in the southwestern state of Arizona. I live up North in Arizona, but head South quite often to bowl. For a relaxed day of bowling I enjoy the retirement community @ Sun City, bowling @ the 16 lane Bell Lanes. It's a private retirement recreation bowling facility that allows people (members & non-members) of age 55 and over a nice quite, very clean & refreshing environment to bowl in. They keep the alleys very nice and have tournaments as well as league bowling. Secure too, with loads of parking! I always do well there when bowling and it has quite the indoor pool room (snooker/8 ball & etc) and shuffle board areas with an indoor resturant to boot. A very enjoyable place to relax and enjoy one's self or others. If you're over 55 give it a try. Very relaxing to say the least. Also, one of the top retail bowling stores (Impact Bowling) in right next door in the shopping center on the corner of Bell Rd and 99th. Great guys who know their stuff. Welcome to Arizona when you arrive. Just remember, "It's a DRY HEAT!"  :o during the summers. Beautiful right now. Build or buy on somewhat higher ground account of heavy monsoon rains July through Sept.  ::) The bowling rag mentioned above is "Desert Bowler". Do a google search. I like it except for the fact that they toot the horn of players who bowl 300 games and/or 800+ series. Way to much press there as far as I'm concerned, but whatever. I'm sure those bowlers love getting the press.

RH Johnson and Lakeview are also similar to Bell up in the Sun City areal
