ever been called a Sandbagger and the person ment it?
« on: March 23, 2004, 08:57:38 AM »
OK  Monday nite, its position nite, and we are down on the low end of the lanes, we bowl from lanes 7-18.  I tend to bowl better on the low end.

Well the past couple weeks i was kinda struggling shooting mid 500's

Monday nite i start out front 9--ringing 10pin miss 267 then shoot 218 and lanes got really dry and shoot 163 open'd in the 10th  and was going strike spare from 3rd frame on, with a open in the second.

Well the team we was bowling we beat by 170pins the first game and 50pins second game and got beat by like 30pins last game.

Well i over heard one of the guys on the other team after the third game was done,  say loud enough so i could hear, that i was the biggest sandbagger he's ever seen.

I have never sandbagged, i mean and i know it seems bad cuz in this league i have 2  300 games 2 700series, and plenty of solid 600's   But its like when things go wrong, i totally bomb and feel like i havent bowled in forever.

i do have a 197avg in this league and 198 in my weds league and 207 in my thursday league.   I have never averaged over 210 for a full season.

But this just makes me wanna go out next yr and kick some azz lol.  which i hope will happen.

I just started out crappy on my monday nite league only having two 600series in the first two months, and my avg was way down to low 190's.  I mean it happens when you are struggling and try to make things happen.

Sounds like a sore loser or he was just blowing off some steam.  Confront him about and explain that you are always trying, but clearly admit you have faults in your game that explode sometimes.  If you choose to take the high road, then you can't let these comments disrupt your enjoyment for the game.

Get a coach to find your obvious flaws in your game and practice to correct these.  The only true way you can never be labled a sandbagger is if you carry a very high average.  While your average is pretty good, you can improve just by eliminating these really bad games.  Make it a goal next year to average 210.  You said that you have never done this before, but you are close enough that this is a reasonable goal.

Looks to me you shot a 648 which is above your average.  Also had it not been for your 163 the last game they would have been swept.  Sore loser syndrome.

I have a good friend who one year averaged 200 when he was around 30.  Well he now averages between 160-170 at 44.  Certain people have called him a sandbagger and I know it pisses him off.  Trust me I know he's not "he's just worthless and weak!"

I find that a number of people use the word sandbagger without thinking what they are truely saying.  There are some people that automaticly call someone a sandbagger when that person shoots a better than their average.  However, that's how averages are made. Sometimes you shoot better and sometimes you shoot below your average.

A sandbagger is a person that intentionally throws pins away to get the future advantage of a low average.  If you are not doing this, then you are not a sandbagger.

Just chauk it up as someone who does not know what they are talking about.

David,

In all actuallity if you are giving it your best every
week, every shot, no matter what win or lose then you
can rest assured that you are not a sandbagger.

You have 2 300's in this league so right or wrong there
are lesser bowlers that look at you as a "great" bowler.
There expectations of you are high since they have seen
you throw "the big one".  If I walked in and saw someone
on the sheet with a 200 avg. shoot 268, 218, 163 with 2 300
games and several 700's to his credit on the ths I might
wonder myself.

By the sound of things the person you are speeking of beleives
you are a better bowler then you really are and his expectations
of you are too high.  Live with him beleiving you sandbag at times
or set him streight and let him know you are not as good as he thinks
you are.

Just my opinion,

Jac

I'VE BEEN CALLED THIS SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST MONTH, I BOUGHT A NEW BALL RECENTLY AND BEEN PRACTICING MY BUTT OFF TO GET BETTER AND IT'S STARTING TO PAY OFF FOR ME. I NOW HAVE A 180 AVE. BUT 5 WEEKS AGO IT WAS 170. SO AVERAGE IT OUT TO A 510 SERIES. THE LAST 5 WEEKS HAVE BEEN AS FOLLOWS;

1. 678 WITH A 290 GAME
2. 639
3. 607
4. 613
5. (JUST LAST NIGHT 3-23-04) 229-236-249= 714 HIGHEST EVER

OUR TEAM IS IN 2ND PLACE AND THE TWO TEAMS BEHIND US HAVE GOT THERE PANTIES TWISTED UP BECAUSE THAT CAN'T CATCH US.
