Looking to drill my first ball with the Rico drilling and the Pro Shop has the Heist and the Cherry Vibe out the door for $124.  I seen the Rico on the Cherry Vibe but I know nothing of the Heist.

Thanks,

I love my Cherry Vibe drilled RICO.  I have it at 4000 abralon with factory finish polish, and this ball is so smooth, with a nice hard arcing backend.  I haven't owned a Heist, but I would certainly recommend the Cherry Vibe if it is on your list, good luck!

Geez, Hei$t out the door for 124.95 is a Heist...if you know what I mean. That ball shouldn't be priced that cheap!!!

The Hei$t is going to handle slightly more oil...I could see both being very conducive to a Rico drill. Pick the Cherry if you want more length, Hei$t if you want a little more midlane...

AND THEN BUY A HEI$T ANYWAYS FOR THE PRICE!!!

unless you tell us your axis stats, saying "rico" is USELESS!

"Which ball is better for Rico drilling Heist or Cherry Vibe?"

I think you're either asking thew wrong question or not giving enough information. The Rico drilling is just another drilling; it forces a change of characteristics on a ball's designed-in reaction for a bowler's release. It makes the ball start hooking earlier and makes the backend much more arc-like than the ball's normal backend. It makes the ball slightly stronger because of the overall hook (at least as far as I have seen) and this allows it to handle more carrydown and more oil than with "normal" or average drillings, but it's still JUST a drilling.

You need to have some idea how any ball, for which you wish to use this drilling, will react for you on xxx oil pattern, for your release, before you can have any idea how the Rico drilling will modify this ball's reaction for you.

Unless you can afford it, I'd suggest trying the Rico on a ball you already have sitting around, either new or used, before using it on a ball you are going to buy.

Normally, the Cherry Vibe will go longer and have more backend than a Heist, which handles more oil, and is earlier and more controlled. Normally, the Vibe might skid too far, with regular drillings, compared to the Heist, when the Heist is hitting the pocket. The Heist could be rolling out, or burnign up in the midlane, when the CV is hitting the pocket well. Keep in mind that house blended shots can mask the difference. With these two balls (CV for medium-light oil and the Heist for medium oil) there isn't a huge difference bewtween them, but the way they go about their job is very different.

So the interaction between these balls and the oil pattern on which you will be using them is the true deciding factor. Right now only you can determine that.

Thank you for the feedback.  My PAP is 4 7/8 3/8 up.  About 16 mph and med rev rate.  I don't know anything about the Heist and currently only have the Blue Vibe of the Vibe family.

I thought the Rico drilling ws the Rico drilling.  What does the PAP have to do with it?  So I read that the Rico helps raise the track on bowlers with a low ball track.

Thanks again.

The Rico puts the pin in the center of the grip. If your PAP is 5" over, then the pin to PAP distance is 5". If your PAP is 6" over, then the pin to PAP distance is 6". This affects the drilling's flare potential, length and overall ball reaction.

"the Rico helps raise the track on bowlers with a low ball track."
That low pin position can make the ball flare over the fingers holes for a bowler with a high track. The weight hole helps move the bowtie of the flare a little higher to help prevent this. People with a high "up" portion of the PAP may have to move the pin a little higher, in case the weight hole does not move the bowtie high enough.

The purpose of the Rico is not to raise the track. I do not believe it will raise the track.

Thank you Charllest.  Two things:
1.  I say the Rico drilling is Rico drilling becauce the Rico drilling puts the pin in the center of the grip in most cases.  So PAP isn't that important unless you are a high tracker.

2.  The Rico drilling seems to raise the track for a high tracker because the ball might flare over the fingers.  So if this is a concern for high trackers, then the drilling will probably raise the track for a low tracker but the low tracker doesn't have to worry about tracking over the fingers.
