Which bowling magazine do you subscribe to?
« on: March 11, 2011, 05:25:49 AM »
I'm not from the US and I just know Bowling This Month and Bowlers Journal. Which bowling-related magazine is the most popular in the US?

Thanks!

A couple of years ago, I've subscribed to bowling this month..I stopped three years ago since I kept moving....I do plan on getting back issues of 2009, all 12 issues. I found this bowling magazine a really good read....

Those are the only two I am familiar with and I subscribe to both. I think Bowlers Journal has the larger circulation of the two.

I've subscribed to BTM which focuses on improving the readers' game. I haven't read Bowlers Journal but from the website it looks like it's more of the news-reporting type. Am I right?

Bowlers Journal covers the Bowling industry in general. It has news of interest to industry professionals, Proshop Operators and Bowling Proprietors. It usually has an article or two on improving your game and a few ball reviews. But it isn't focused on just the individual bowler like BTM.

Years ago there used to be Bowling Digest.  I don't know what year it folded.  I subscribe to BTM and I got it through bowling the BTM.  I will likely renew it because I won't be able to get to Reno before my subscrption runs out.  It's very focused on the individual bowler and it can be somewhat technical.  Lots can be learned from reading it..even the back issues.

Thank you all!

I've subscribed to BTM for a few months and the technical articles are mostly useful. But shipping overseas makes it quite expensive. I've decided to subscribe to BJI too.

It was somewhere around 2003 or 04. Of course I had reupped my subscription for 3 more years about 4 months before they folded. I tried a couple of numbers and was told I woul dbe getting reimbursed for the unused portion but I am still waiting on that check.

I subscribe to BTM and have not flipped through a BJ in a while, but BTM was always my favorite of the two.

Actually to be honest besides the free USBC magazine I get I didn't know there were any bowling magazines left. Bowling Digest was a great magazine back in the day and was so long ago forgot how good they were.

Bowling this month is an awesome magazine.  It was the brain child of the late Bob Summerville (who loved bowling as we all do) and has long filled a void for the better bkowler and those who want to become better bowlers.  It is simply excellent!

I also subscribe to Bbowlers Journal International mainly becuase of the ball reviews by Joe Cerar, a very knowledgeable, down-to-earth pro shop operator who also has a net podcast show called   'above180'.

Listen to it.  You'll love it.

Hi,

I subscribed to both a few years ago. BJI was £75.00 for 3 years and BTM was about £85.00 for 2 years. Those are roughly still the overseas rates.

I really enjoyed both magazines. They always had good PBA write-ups in BJI which was great for people outside the USA. I really am a very big fan of the PBA and it proved very useful in keeping in touch with the goings on.

BTM was more for improving your game. Some articles were excellent and some were repeated through the years, still most months there were quite a few gems in there.

Ball reviews in both but better I felt in the BTM but not bad in the BJI.

Which was best? I'd probably go with BTM but I still very much enjoyed BJI and If I was still bowling regularly and still buying balls then I'd not hesitate in taking out both subscriptions again.
