debating either green mamba or hell raiser revenge which one hooks more?
-
Seems to be some confusion here.
Do you want to know which is better? Or which one hooks more?
-
the probable question should do you understand what hook is?

You are obviously very far behind the times. Haven't you heard, it's the same thing these days.

I think the most important question is...who cares?

I think the most important question is...who cares?
That's gold, pure gold.
-
That's all I have to say about this topic.
-
Too funny doom!
To answer the question, ......... yes!
-
so glad to get an answer from a bunch of bozos,u should all try stabd up comedy. since not a single one of you who repilied own both balls i think you should just shut the hell up
-
I'm sorry, but you asked a VERY vague question, and expected a serious answer. Answer is, depends. What is your rev rate, speed, tilt, pap. What conditions are you bowling on? What are you looking for, compared to the other balls you have? How are they drilled? Surface? Are you looking for early hook?
I own a Bank and a Bank Roll, which is the same core and almost the same cover as the Mamba, and they're both very versatile. I can get in, and slow it down, and hook the lane, or move right, and take some hand out, and it gets down the lane, and still maintains the backend move. Carry, for me, is above average. The way the SRC core stands up for me works.
Personally, Brunswick products don't roll well for me. Haven't tried anything since the Inferno days, and the motion looks different now from what they used to roll like.
I try stand up comedy every day. My kids appreciate it.
-
Well holla,
You've got a bad perspective. You are equating hook with performance and thats a no-no. Hook doesnt equal performance. Both ball you speak of are from 2 different companies. The Terror is going to be long strong and flippy. The green mamba is going to be long but arc on the backend. Now im just speaking from what I've seen from video (green mamba) and from what I've seen in person from a DV8 staffer, I, personally, would go with the terror because I think it'll give people the "big hook" reaction everyone wants to see out of a ball. Not that the green mamba isnt good, just havent seen it in person.
For future reference, know what you're asking of the members before you waste bandwidth with questions that, quite frankly, dont make sense. You're setting yourself up for replys like that when you do.
-
funny how you say its such a vague question but you managed to answer it ,next time try it without all the sarcasm
-
and an fyi, i only asked which one hooks more and like i said earlier if you do not own both then dont bother to reply. i guess you just need something to do
-
Wow,
I wish I read the last Rightycomplex's post first and the last Impending Doom post, thats what this website is intended for. And the person who posted the question cares. Maybe not a question with all the elements needed, but asked in all seriousness.
Don't know about the Mamba. I have two Revenges, Too Recless and a Mistfit from DV8 and have considered the Terror. But I keep one Revenge dull and the second one lightly polished but both with different drills. The Revenge can be drilled for long and strong break point and with polish can be longer and stronger. The Revenge can also be drilled to hook earlier and read the midlane better and with a rougher surface will make a ball handle lane conditions with a higher amount of oil.
I took a Frantic removed the polish with a pin in a stronger position then the Revenge on an oil pattern that was 5-5 and 42 feet and the Frantic gave me a better look then the Revenge. So drill pattern and surface prep can make a big difference of what a ball will and will not do.
The point is well taken though, without a lot of specifics about your game, its near impossible to recommend any ball. We need to know ball speed, rotation, rev rate, maybe your average and the lane condition you're trying to play on. A video of you throwing the ball a few times really helpls. A coach would be great then you can post what your coach tells you about your game. If not a coach, someone from the pro shop.
I do not match up well with Roto Grip for the most part, earlier I read that someone didn't match up with Brunswick. Many if not all ball manufactuers are making bowling balls that handle all conditions or at least advertised to do it all.
-
Nic,
Just having a bit of fun at Holla's expense. The only people that have thrown both are...... Nobody! Some staffer just got these balls and very rarely will someone buy 2 high performance asymmetric bowling balls at the same time. So to topic "which is better" then post "which hooks more" confuses many topic readers who might have input. With no stats and a vague topic and question, you're going to get made fun of. In all fairness, i did answer his question to the best of my abilities. Not trying to be mean about anything, but just found it funny. Oh well. Guess only staffers opinions are valid here.
-
just to add: mention what type of hook your wanting a strong overall hook or do you want to see the snap movement? Also asking on the type of pattern and personl number isnt being a dick its giving a better idea of what kind of bowler you are. example a med revs bowler with say 17mph on alot of oil will probably like the mamba do to its stronger roll pickin up the mids giving a better read.
-
These questions about which of two brand new unreleased balls are a joke. You want to know? Go out and buy both. Let us know how they are. Then we'll just ignore what you post about the two because none of us throw the ball exactly the same as you do as you don't throw them like us so what is the freaking point of asking us. There. Is that straight forward enough for you? No sarcasm there, either. Now get over it and take a lesson instead of thinking the newest hook in a box is the answer for what ails your game.
-
Sorry to say but the Revenge has been out for a while. The Terror is coming out next week and thats not the ball he was asking about.
The follow-on responses were good responses, its the initial responses that could have been left out. He is new to our website and responses like the initial responses is what sent to many great participants to Ballreviews into different directions.
-
Rightycomplex,
I agree your second response was a fair response and better thought out. I see your new name is a newbie but I think you've been around for a while. The fun part is good, but follow up with a response that will help the poster before being called to the carpet. You have a lot to add to the website, both jockularity and knowledge.
No, I'm not a staffer and not trying to sell DV8, I truly only like the Revenge and I'm working with the Too Reckless and Misfit.
So please add your wealth of knowledge with your humor and so many more readers will appreciate your posts.
Thanks,
Barry

Well nic,
I will definitely admit when I'm wrong and im wrong in this case. I had the Hellraiser Terror in mind when it CLEARLY says Revenge. So being a big man, i apologize to Holla. The answer would still be the same, DV8. However, stats would definitely help.
I have been on this site for over 10 years and i agree with you Nic. Sometimes, we who are more knowledgeable, tend to shun those who are new and less knowledgeable about the sport. There's no place for it. But there are a lot of internet tough guys out there who are very thin skinned and also a lot of new ball x vs new ball y post that are obvious or explained by staff websites. I have to imagine if newbies found br.com they have to frequent ball company websites as well. For ex., a poster put up fireroad v crossroad when buddies had 2 or 3 vids on that subject. My point is who better to explain ball reaction than the staffers themselves and vids to boot. AMF has a vid, dv8 has a vid, what more do you need?
-
thank you for understanding it was just a basic question. the later respones helped. and to big daddy gone i do not need lessons ive had many 300 games and 800s in my time i dont think that getting a ball that hooks most will solve my problems as u say because i dont have any bowling problems just wanted to add to my arsenal is all so keep your nasty comments to yourself . hows that for a lesson
-
I totally agree with you Righty. Some of those posts are down right hard to read.
If someone is comparing Brunswick bowling balls, Brunswick is the best site to go to. They also have videos. Buddies use to have a ball review section that was outstanding. The videos they have now is also very good but they don't review every ball. DV8 and probably all the manufactuers have videos on their website.
But very few ball manufactuers compare bowling balls from other manufactuers. Back in the day the Joke was how much Lane 1 bowling balls hooked. This is not meant to slam Lane 1, that was just a great marketing tool. I threw Lane 1 until Columbia started making them.
Thank you for the follow on replies. Please keep it fun and a poking at some questions is not problem, but a little help or reference or even a request for more info is a great tool for our website.
Its not my website and if I'm out of line, you have my apoligies. If there wasn't adversity here on Ballreviews, it would be boring.
Thanks again,
Barry

Merely shooting 300's & 800's honestly in this day and age mean absolutely nothing...if you are looking for a piece to add to an arsenal say that....be more precise when asking in regards to equipment...as I stated earlier, if you do not understand hook you cannot ask about it. Bowling balls at the upper echelon of players are used to fill gaps in reaction...not merely saying I want this one cause it hooks more. You need to know where it hooks and how it responds to friction, as well as understanding how the different companies cover respond.
Saying you can strike on house conditions means not much.
And BTW the players that I have either worked with or continue to work with strike on a lot of different conditions & win...and they are NOT afraid to take lessons.
-
Holla,
After reading your response I have to put a little information that will help in the future. I looked at your profile and you have not listed one. With 300's and 800's under your belt and being new to our website, its impossible to understand where you are coming from with a question like you asked. To me it seemed like you wanted a hook in the box that we hear a lot from begining and novice bowlers. So I not only hope thay you help us in the future, I hope anyone reading these posts has a little better understanding how to ask a question and give us a little help with some stats and lane conditions.
Thanks,
Barry

i guess i must be more specific but i just wanted some options not the nasty ones either . i was wondering more how the 2 balls i mentioned were on heavy oil. as for me i have med speed and decent rev rate i only bowl on sport conditions. and i do not have anything in my profile because i am rarely here, after today maybe even less. i realize having 300s and 800s do not make me anything special but i consider my self to be a decent bowler. i have been bowling 30 plus years with an avg over 225 so i think I'm doing OK not many people bowl that on a sport condition as well in any event i didn't need all the sarcasm it was just a basic topic and thank you Barry for your input. on another note i do watch the vids from the company's but i have a hard time believing anyone from the company promoting there own equipment
-
and 1 more note. i think rightycomplex is to funny saying us who are more knolegable shun those who are not ,i have news for you im plent knolegeable about bowling and im not a lefty
-
and rico learn how to read i neve said having 300s or 800s in this day and age was special, ive been having them every year for 30yrs and i never said anyting about striking on a house shot been long done with house shots so keep your comments to yourself ty
-
A. I can not only read but I can SPELL...correctly
B. my inference was to you stating that you do not need lessons....EVERYONE at EVERY level needs lessons...
C. 300's & 800's do not a bowler make...especially the necessity of telling others that you have shot them...
Amazing how much better a person is on a website.....never having to defend a word they post.....
-
Holla,
I hope you stay around. With the knowledge you have playing the sport shot could benifit our website. It does seem 300 and 800 scores are becoming easier to obtain, but not everyone bowls 300 and 800 scores and with the exception of luck, you still have to be fairly consistant to bowl 300s, 800s and average 225 plus. No its not as difficult as the early years, but its still a great score/average.
Thanks,
Barry

Holla,
A. My beef is no longer with you and I've apologized for misreading your post and answered your question.
B. Attacks make you seem petty.
C. Boasting your "stats" make you seem shallow and raises doubt that you are what you say you are, especially after a horrible and contradictory post topic and question, though, you somewhat redeemed yourself then lost it all over again.
D. What does being left handed have to do with knowledge. I wasnt talking to you about being knowledgeable nor was i calling you unknowledgeable. I was referring to past users who have done so, i was including myself because of my length of being on this site that im sure I've done it as well.
If this is how you choose to respond then your opinion and post are not necessary to the site and an example of what is wrong with some users on this site. we might poke fun but we also give viable knowledge to those who ask. Im sorry that you feel the need to respond like that and i hope you find help from other users. Enjoy br.com
-
Great response Righty. There is nothing wrong with a little banter and bragging, I've done it myself. If we kept this site on the straight and narrow, there would be few posters and readers. We add our personalities to our post along with our questions and responses. But the bottoom line, is we all have knowledge and experiences to share.
And no, I don't know how to spell and when I use the spell checker it erases the posts I just typed. This darn new computer, haven't figured it out yet.
-
After reading the OP's subsequent posts, I stand by my post. If you are as "experienced" as you say, you should know what these balls are going to do based on the specs and how you drill it. Cut it out.
-
yeah daddy i know about a ball ive never had or drilled that makes sense
-
on another note my question may be to basic and i forgot to use spell check oh my,but over 800 people have read about this topic so i think the basics are all u need sometimes
-
I completly got what he was asking right away , that he was looking for an oiler , u people are way to anal , ,, by the way i have the revenge and love it , ,, threads like this are why i spend more time on another site , if u dont think his question is good just move on , no need to bash the guy :P
-
... if u dont think his question is good just move on , no need to bash the guy :P
It was never a question of its being a good question or not. It was a question of not knowing what he was asking, since the amount of "POTENTIAL" hook a ball can have is totally irrelevant in today's bowling environment. Unlike the urethane days, which ended 20 years ago, the amount of oil a ball can handle is not related to how much it hooks.
I believe that many people who criticized his question (and not him personally) just wanted to know what he was asking.
-
thank you for your reply larry, sometimes asking something simple turns into a big to do
-
Umm... it was simple.. too simple.
