It's a shame, but it is business today. Paying employees & utilities for that 1/2 hour may have cost more than any revenue those 7 cars might have generated. Hopefully you let the manager or person on duty know what you saw??? That way they can determine if it makes sense to maybe open at 3. If you didn't, then why bother counting cars and complaining about it here???
Jorge,
It's the same for the AMF/Bowlmor operations here. The manager wouldn't dare to override the decree that Bowlmor made to have these generic bowling centers open at 4 PM. The local place used to open at 9 AM and stay open til 11/Midnight. Now they only open:
Monday 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.
Tuesday 4:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
Wednesday 4:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Thursday 11:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.
Friday 2:00 p.m. - Midnight
Saturday 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 a.m.
Sunday 10 AM - 10 PM.
Addendum:
I bowl at this house in 2 leagues. We get 2 free games per week for each league we're in. I have not used that offer once this season (since September) for 2 main reasons. One, the hours and, two, the oil. They only oil before the leagues and once oiled, they won't let you bowl on them unless it's a business party and then they don't re-oil for the league. After leagues, is open (long lines) and "cosmic" bowling.
One thing I have to say about the local center is that the people working there have taken a major step upwards in courtesy and knowledge over the last year. (except for the manager, of course). They can't do enough to help you and the seem to know what to do in almost every case I have encountered and they try to do it as quickly as possible, too! That is everyone, except for the manager. Unless you're business or an open bowler, any request you make to him, he all but rolls his eyes and makes you feel like you're fool for asking him to do anything.
They're upgraded everything except the pin setters. I half think they're as old as the building (50+ years). The poor mechanics have those machines held together with spit and a promise. For 48 lanes, they have ONE mechanic to fix all breakdowns at night when all lanes are filled with leagues. ONE MECHANIC, running from one side to the other. And every pair I've been on for the past month and pairs left or right of me, has broken down once or many times, mostly pins falling randomly or rakes stuck. I have no idea how these mechanics work their miracles. Small wonder all three that I know of are so skinny. They're running, literally for their entire work shift.
