Title: which style are you?
Post by: chitown on August 06, 2007, 03:55:54 PM
Which style are you, closed shoulder or open shoulder?

I'm just curious as to which style is more popular on this site.

I use a closed shoulder approach.

Open shoulder (Chris Barnes, Tommy Jones,)

Closed shoulder (WRW, Doug Kent)

You might want to go into a little more detail about the styles before mass confusion sets in...

I'm probably an closed shoulder bowler unless I'm really trying to open up the lanes, but right now my left arm is in a cast, so my approach is all messed up.  I'll be glad to get this darn thing off tomorrow afternoon.

Closed shoulder, stroker or mild tweener.

Rather conservative style, I think. I try to prevent upper body/shoulder movements and have a free swing, just some muscle when and after the thumb comes out to "come through the ball".

Always a closed shoulder and fairly low backswing.  I have absolutely no consistency if I try to open my shoulder any.

Closed shoulders.

Feet straight, shoulders square.

Sort of a Barnes/Allen/Couch:

Open and dropped shoulder, medium-high backswing, trail leg goes up on release then to the floor.

Stroker, I'd say, with closed shoulders. Looks smooth. Tweener at best, since you do not use your upper body to generate extra thrust.

I can do both as needed but I feel MUCH more comfortable with a open shoulder

Long approach, fast feet/early timing, High backswing, open shouldered.  Lots of speed baby!

Open. I've tried to work on Danny Wiseman's type of armswing...I'd say my style is closer to his. I'm purposly opening my shoulders and coming through the ball close to my slide leg as possible. The swing enables me to be relaxed while trying to get a decently strong tweener roll. My timing is much earlier then Danny's. I like to push off on the first step on my 5 step delivery and he is later.

Open shouldered, speed challenged revver -- sometimes a little too open, but way more comfortable than when I try to square it all up.
