Too much.....no, not enough
« on: November 30, 2005, 01:02:26 AM »
Once again last night everyone was struggling (so I made out in brackets, hehe), but I ran into something that I guess I don't have enough experience or smarts to handle well.  If I tried to put a lot of hand in the ball (index finger spread, lots of turn) I couldn't keep it on the right side, BUT, if I backed off just a tad (finger in, less hit) I could hardly get it to wrinkle.  I know that somewhere in between was the ideal, but I couldn't find it.  Didn't seem to make much differenc if I played out (5 board) or more in (12 board), I could either make the ball do the "left turn Clyde" thing or throw darts.  Speed was also relative - anything slow hooked.  Got any ideas?

To me it sounds like a longer pattern with very little taper (buff) and pretty dry back ends.

When you come out of the oil if you have any hit on the ball it jumps and hooks. But if you don’t hit the ball then it wants to skate past the breakpoint.

I would think you would need to play deeper and not get the ball too far past the pocket.

Also you could take a ball with a lot of surface to get it to roll earlier and burn off some of its energy.

I’m not sure I can give very good advice as this sounds like conditions that give me fits as I have far too much hit in my release so I’m stuck in over/under hell.

Pinbuster, you described the pattern perfectly.  Unfortunately I didn't have anything with surface in the bag last night - I won't do that again soon.

Stand more right and throw is harder outside. It depends on the length and volume of the pattern though.
