Scoring High
« on: April 13, 2005, 04:58:16 AM »

Just a general question about scoring high?  Do guys that swing the ball out, generally score higher then guys that go down and in?  I know lane conditions, revs, etc. all play a part in scoring, but in general would a bowler score higher by swinging it or by going down and in.

Sorry but it is all bowler and lane condition specific.

I’ve shot 800 throwing urethane pointing it up off the gutter.

I’ve shot 800 throwing resin down the boards at the 9 board.

I’ve shot 800 throwing inside 3rd arrow and swinging it to 5.

The majority of higher average bowlers today like to swing the ball so I guess you would see more scores with that style.

But on today’s conditions and balls any style can score.

In my opinion from personal experience, I tend to score very high when I am able to swing my ball out because you have more room to play the lane. Thats what everyone else I bowl with says as well.

A thorough, educated answer to that question would be called a book.  Then the sport wouldn't be fun anymore.

I've seen bowlers throw 800 series playing down and in off the gutter, swinging 20 to 2, even playing straight up 14 board. It's all about the right execution with the right equipment on the right lane condition- whether your a stroker, tweener or cranker.

The lanes decide.  I've been able to score big playing straight up and swinging the ball.  My 300 games have been playing straight up.  My best series were swinging the ball.
