Just how good are WRW, Jr. and Chris Barnes?

It's talking about TIM MACK, who's known as one of the TOP REGIONAL money making guys the last several years!

It says in the article, "The highest he has finished in a PBA Tour event this season is 23rd in the 2004 PBA Denver Open."

23rd place is his highest?

Most people have heard of TIM MACK and know how great he is. You can't get much more talent than what Tim Mack has.

That just goes to show how great people like Walter Ray and Chris Barnes, who are actually making the Television Finals almost every other show, how much better they are. How can you get to be that good?

This is not a "cut-down" to Tim Mack... but rather an insight as to how great the guys that are actually making Television Shows truely are!

If a top talented guy like Tim is having trouble getting into the top 32 most weeks... then what does that tell you the talent level for guys like WRW, Jr. (who's won 40 titles), and Chris Barnes, TRUELY is??? These guys are not just making it into the top 32... they are usually LEADING ALL OF QUALIFYING!!!

Does my post makes sense?

I didn't know Tim Mack had made a bunch of money in the regionals. How many regionals has he won?

I knew he had, for 10 years or so, been winning many international torunaments; in fact, it was his forte.

I'm thinking that I heard some people say that he's made over $100,000 each year bowling in Tournaments? Or maybe it's $200,000 a year?

Probably that in international tournaments; not sure about regional ones. BIG difference.

I went to a coaching course with Tim Mack last year.
He talked about his time on the Tour last year and said the reason why these guys are so good is because they know how to move with the patterns they play on.
They play on several patterns throughout the season, maybe 5 or 6, Im not totally sure of the number. When the lanes start to go they know exactly where to go to pick up their scoring.
Tim plays on litterally hundreds of different patterns all over the world and he finds the changes by trial and error. However this takes up valuable shots which the guys on the tour dont need to do. Most of his bowling is outside the USA so he doesnt see as much of the PBA patterns when he bowls in competition compared to the big guns on the Tour.
The difference between the players on tour is so small that 4-5 searching shots per block can mean the difference between doing well and failing to make the cut.
He loves bowling all over the world and I dont think he would ever just lock himself down to just the PBA tour, which he would need to do to compete with the big boys of the tour week in week out.
Thats just my take on it all, you should be proud of the way Tim conducts himself while being a bowling diplomat for the USA. If you lived outside of the USA then you would probably know how much Tim is thought of by all bowlers of all countries.
If I said Tim was the most popular bowler in the world I wouldnt be far off base.
Please dont take this as a rant about anyone knocking Tim Mack, its just I dont think some of you understand how good you have to be to win as much as he has and in as many countries.

If I’m not mistaken I believe Barnes and Healey had pretty good international records. Steelsmith was also great internationally before he went on tour. They may not be as stellar as Mack’s but still pretty good.

Walter Ray, Pete, Parker, Duke have stood the test of time. They have won on all types of conditions, on all types of lane patterns, and used lots of different equipment.

There is also the demand of being on the road almost continuously for 6 months.

To his credit Mack has held his high, never blamed anything else, and has always had a positive outlook. He obviously has an enormous amount of talent but whether it will ever be realized on the PBA tour is yet to be seen.

Tommy Jones does not throw end-over-end yet he has 3 titles. But I agree that Mack is having trouble matching up.

Also, while I agree Pete Weber has struggled this year, he has now missed 3 tournaments. Even if he gets the minimum number of points just for showing up at those tournaments he is inside the top 40 probably closer to 30th.

I don't think it matter what sport you compete in, when you go from amateur ranks to professional ranks, you will need adjustment time. Irrelevant of how close to 'professional' an amateur may be, that change is still a big jump, whether you are a golfer, footballer, basketball player, or whatever. Environments, attitudes, conditions, competitors and requirements are all very different from one stage to another.

It must be even harder with bowling, since the equipment requirements for a spell on the varied internationally set up are radically different from those that would be found on tour.

Top pros are just so veristile i have watched Wayne Webb take the same ball play the 1/2 board i mean the 1/2 not one board striking on high flush shots then switch zones to 6 th arrow and hook the entire lane i guess that is why he has 19 titles. These guys can play wherever they need too and now when to do the move that is why they are so good.

Btw my personal friend has won over 1.5 million as a amateur but only made 2 shows on the pba tour in the 1980s that is how good WRW and the top guys are. My friend is an awesome bowler but not good enough to make money on tour and he has won 2 high rollers and regionals but 3 rd was his best national tour best.

Funny how perspective affects your opinions. If you bowl at the regional level and 16 tour players show up at an event. You assume and most of the time correctly, that 16 of the semi spots are taken. You are playing for the other spots. There is a reason they do this for a living. Turn around and talk about the tour and there is a group of those that stand out above the rest. I think the one bowler that has amazed me is Chris. I have bowled with him and against him and for the life of me I can not figure how he has not won more tour events. The only excuse I can come up with is mental. He still throws the occasional temper tantrum, though normally after he bowls really well. Physically I have seen him do it all. I watched him stringing strikes on fresh oil with a white dot off the ditch, then jump to 25 and cover the lane and keep striking. I guess if you are on TV as much as he is, you are going to lose more than those that don't get there too often.
