Who writes these ebay listings??????????
« on: May 08, 2014, 10:48:52 PM »
I happened to stumble upon this tonight on ebay.......

The seller must not be familiar with bowling.........he writes that the ball has never been drilled for a hand....but the pictures clearly show the plugs from where it was previously drilled---and since this ball in question is a clear wolf...you can see the drilled holes right through the clear coverstock  :P

As Mr Spock would have said back in the late 60's "fascinating"

I'm not seeing any holes in it.  I see some shadows but by looking at it, no holes.  Interesting they say that they contacted Ebonite about it.  I had one of these which you could use in league/tournaments.  I wonder what makes this one different.

I know the pic's show the old holes because I recently bought a used one, and after I had it plugged & drilled, you can see the previous holes right through the clear coverstock.  As far as the legality of it, I understand there were like 3 different clear wolfs with different cores in them, sop maybe they weren't all legal.

Then I guess this ball was just drilled really funky because the holes don't appear to be over the W O L F paw or anywhere close to it.  I'm must be getting old if I can't see it as well as that is one messed up drilling then.  Oh and also, the core I had in mine is the same that's in this one.

I have a NIB one and it doesn't have shadows like this one does.

Old guy too the rescue!

 The listing says DISPLAY ball.

Back when those came out, there was a "display" model that was flat on one side so that you could set it on the counter without using a ball cup.

The "shadow" you guys are seeing is where it has probably been drilled into in order to let them add material to that side of the ball to make it round.

I had the display model, it had a huge flat spot. Much more than you could plug. With that flat spot you could see the actual size of the core. That flat spot was nearly 4-5 inches across. I'm thinking that it's a Normal clear wolf that was drilled improperly then filled. The person on eBay has no idea what it is I bet, and being that there is no visable holes they believe it to be undrilled.

Think what you want to, I've seen it done before.

Guess I would have to see it to believe it. Just not all that feasible.

You have this picture, with 6 (SIX) clearly plugged holes, in a circular pattern, you used to have one of the display balls, yet you find it hard to believe?

 Believe it.

Well shi....  That image never loaded up on my phone. I stand corrected. My apologies. That's quite the undertaking to fix that flat spot!

Wow, I have never seen anyone fill in the flat spot from the "display" ball. But, these are hard to find now so maybe it was because they had no other option to get one, and they sell for quite a bit if you have one.

Like Milo, I have a NIB one as well....and the one I have been using since 1996 to shoot spares with. I made sure I had a spare on hand when they stopped making them. To me, this is the best spare/super dry lane ball ever. This ball is part of one my bowling bucket list....I want to shoot 300 with this ball before I quit bowling. I have several 279's with it, just can't seem to get them all, lol.

Couldn't the 6 plug holes mean that it had been drilled twice? Two sets of finger holes and two thumb holes?
