Title: Why are Overseas Balls more colorful ?
Post by: 302efi on June 04, 2008, 05:22:34 AM
I see all these overseas releases or re-releases and the colors are bright and vivid.  Why do we (US) get all these dull-azz colored balls ?

Do Asians like balls with flashy colors or something ?

In a word, yes.

Different markets call for different things.  Darker, subtle colors seem to do well stateside.  Across the pond, bright colors with sharp contrast tend to be well-received.

I would like a company rep to chime in here, from any company and explain how they came to this.

We get all these boring blacks, dark blues + purples, where overseas gets oranges, bright greens + yellow.

I remember this being discussed a couple times on here before by actual ball reps, fairly recently in fact.  It's probably buried in the company-specific forums if you're willing to try a search.  But I can say with about 99% certainty the ball companies came to this conclusion from experience and basic market research.  Brightly colored balls don't really sell particularly well in the USA outside of a few exceptions from what I've seen (the Toxic for example was popular around here simply because it was so eye-catching).

It's exactly what the others have suggested, simple tastes and market demands in the Asian market.  They like new stuff released on a regular basis, so they'll get one new ball each month instead of clustering their releases around Expo or the start of the fall season like we get here.  They prefer the colors sold over there, they like names that, frankly, sound pretty fscking stupid, like the Mighty Zone II SH-19.

Their color schemes seem exciting and not at all boring like ours precisely because we don't get those color schemes on a regular basis.  There have been a few examples where the colors for overseas balls are much nicer, I remember a dark/light blue UI that was an overseas version of the red/navy UI we have here and it really looked nice.

But if all our releases had the bright, vibrant schemes, we'd be complaining that you can't go bowling without looking like a paint factory puked in your bowling bag.

Very true.  There's a reason people go "Wow that's ugly!  What the hell is that??" whenever I pull out this odd-looking Awesome Revs (http://"http://img473.imageshack.us/img473/686/awesomerevshc3.jpg").

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.
