why are you a prick when you bowl...
« on: April 11, 2008, 05:02:29 AM »
I think we all have things we do on and around the lanes that makes up pricks in someone elses eyes what is your thing?

for me I get bad rap because I tell it like it is when someone is acting like they are the best thing in bowling I challenge them to bowl against me and I usually win.

I used to be quite the loud bowler also but I have quited down as I have gotten older

The team I use to bowl with back in Sioux Falls we would get up next to each other during warm ups. We also had a few people that would walk up on you while you were in your approach. The league I bowled in this year had two lane courtesy and I hated it. To me it is much slower. Just have one lane and deal with it. During league who the heck needs two lanes?
Chris as far as hitting lockers you are just down right stupid for doing that. No you may not break it but you are damaging property of the bowling center. I know that many people do it but you are representing not only yourself but also Beans and his proshop also looks like you will be representing a college here soon as well. I don't care how good you are learn some self control. Sorry for the little rant but I hate people that go around hitting stuff over a GAME.

Two things. First, being a prick is sort of part of the game in our league. Some of us talk plenty of sh. But we are just having fun.

Second, lane courtesy is way overrated. As long as noone steps onto the lane with you and grabs your arm, you should be able to step up and bowl. Period. I have seen pros step off of the lane because a baby was crying in the audience. Crazy as hail. And all of the wanna be pros seem to be just as sensitive. No mental game.

I guess none of you get this whole 15-20 seconds on the approach. It is not to wipe off your ball, it is not the time you are trying to figure out your line. It is a time for you to get focused and get set. I take 10-15 seconds like I said before. This is picking up my ball, stepping up, placing my feet, setting and checking my start position. I then take a few breaths to clear my head and go. Chris and I are not talking about getting set and just standing there for 15 seconds. All that does is make your hand sweat.

it's great.

as for me, i occasionally do the shoe squeak or slap the ball return, but that is not often at all.

there are a few bowlers that take an inordinate amount of time to throw the ball.  one in particular is an older guy who averages 150 i think this year.  another is a 200 average bowler.  some bowlers make a spectacle for those in the settee area, never being rude to the bowler who takes his time.  in my case i just use that extra time to my advantage, preparing for my shot, focusing on my target etc so when i get in my stance im ready.  i dont let the extra time waiting bother me as a result.  it just means im better focused for my shot. (fyi, from the first step onto the approach till the start of my delivery its in the neighborhood of 10-12 seconds, half of which is in my stance)

only time i exhibit anything negative is on bad shots, most times i just turn around and walk away without watching it.

But you ARE physically on the approach for up to 20 seconds before you even begin to walk to the foul line, correct?  I can get mentally focused and set standing behind the approach by the end of the ball return.  After I get onto the approach, I stand there for roughly two seconds to get set and take a breath.  So, from the time I start to step onto the approach with my ball in hand to the time I start to walk to the foul line is maybe four to five seconds.  And that's all I need.  If I need more time to clear my head, think about my shot, etc., I don't stand on the approach.

And yes, I HAVE seen people stand in the ready position for 15 seconds before.  I've seen good bowlers and bad bowlers alike do it.  The most annoying thing in bowling outside of somebody punching lockers and kicking stuff.

You do not have to have a high average to be one of those. There are many people that average low and still act like a P.

I am loud when I bowl no matter how I am bowling. Some people would say that I act like one, but I go bowling to have fun and that is what I do, have fun.

QFT brother!

I'm viewed as a bagger, so i'm the prick and not the one who acts like a 5yr old. My average sucks; i don't care what i shoot.

I see people throwing fits, punching walls, throwing balls, and acting like idiots.

I realize that I am not good enough to get that pi$$ed off. And almost always, neither are they.

You don't get to the top level of a concentration game like bowling not being able to control your emotions like that.I love to see it snowball once they get mad, the madder they get, the worse they throw, then they get madder, etc, etc, etc.
Makes me laugh every time.

But I'm just an average house hack, so maybe I just don't understand the pressures of bowling. I still do it for fun,I just love the game, whether I am doing good or bad..If I am having a great game, I enjoy itthe feel of being in the zone, if I am doing bad, it's a challenge to figure out how to correct it, not blame everything else for my bad game.

I usually set in a seat in the pit with my head down, mean look on my face and close reach of the pistol in my bowling bag.

Lets see these 140 avg bowlers string a 4 bagger, I got something waiting for their azz...

What the hel! is the big hurry with some of you? Don't get me wrong I only take around 5 sec. to starty to the foul line but one of my teamates takes about 15-20 sec. so what's the hurry? I myself go to have fun and drink some beer and also be competative most of the time and always hard on myself. Question is life that fast that we can't slow down and smell the roses or enjoy ourselves at bowling because we have to shoot in 5-10 sec. or the world will end come on guys slow down and enjoy life a little.
