Funny how we fall into bad habits!!!!
« on: October 02, 2004, 02:36:34 PM »
This is my second year of serious bowling. I wanted to start this year making more spares and raising my average. Well, I started sparing alot more, but my strike ball has been terrible. Not very much carry, slow ball speed, you name it. I had gotten into a bad habit of starting low and dropping my ball too early.

So, I started to experiment with things. I started staying more upright at the line on delivery, and looking farther down the lane at my mark. What a difference! My ball speed picked up, my carry is 100 percent better, and the scores are going up too.

I guess all the practice games before and after league are paying off. Just getting advice from a coach on spare shooting, and trying different things on the strike ball are turning my game around. Just wanted to share a little breakthrough in my game.

fatboy thats awesome! Im glad things are turning around in your game for you! I, myself, right now am struggling with finding a style I like, and want to stay with. I go from stroker one week, to high end tweener the next. Still trying to decide.

Hey, I'm in my second year too.  Except I am opposite.  I have my strike shot, but I need to practice spares more.  I just don't bowl enough though.  I'm not sure how good my timing is, but it seems to work well enough.  In addition to speed, did you get more revs?  (or did you already have a good amount)

Anyways, congratulations and good luck.

Yeah, my revs picked up too. That with the speed helped with my carry I think. My ball would roll out so early because of my putting it on the lane to early. So moving my mark down lane, and throwing it out further gets it to the pocket nicer. Also, being more vertical lets me have a little more control, and confidence. My spare shooting has really picked up this year, so together, it should be a decent year, until the next bad habits sneak up!

Well think of it this way, every bowler has some type of bad habit, its what makes their game different from everyone elses. At least you dont have a bad habit like......being a lefty!

Speed and revs are always a nice thing, especially when you're good at spare shooting.

Right now, I would consider myself a high-end tweener, though I don't know my revs for sure.

BK, being a lefty isn't a bad habit........it's a natural handicap.
