Gearing Up For Fall
« on: August 11, 2011, 11:38:42 AM »
I'm getting ready to start my fall leagues.  Got a new ball, hoping it does the job.  What is everyone else doing to get ready?

Just had my span readjusted after using the same span for past 16 years (only one ball with new span). Need to get rest of balls in arsenal to new span. Need to buy some more grips, tape, glue, towels, and a replacement heel for my shoe. Need to resurface one ball. Need to get the others to desired surface. Have also purchased one ball for the season (Ransom). Not sure how I want it drilled yet.

Just started to the lanes to practice.

Haven't been bowling much the last month to six weeks, so I set up a few coaching sessions for the next couple weeks. When the kids start school,I plan to log some serious practice time to get ready.(My leagues first week isn't until Sept. 18)

Mainly practicing, to keep up performance. Next week I take part in a club tournament, and in September the league will start. Execution and mental game are the things I lay my focus on.

Concerning equipment I am conservative; I have an arsenal which works well, so I do not plan any major changes. Just got one (used) ball last week, but rather out of curiosity than a true arsenal gap.

Two words. Anabolic steroids!  It's about time for more cortisone in the shoulder.
Actually I just throw a few extra practice games each week. I love golf, so when the weather is nice I enjoy the break away from the bowling center. I have bowled one league this summer so the game is close to where it should be for an old fart like me.

Been practicing in two summer leagues. Both are fun leagues, so the sense of competition is always around......but I let my teammates know ahead of time that this is fun and "practice" for me.

I know many people say that you can't really practice during any kind of league sessions, but I disagree on that part. This is the time when I try different releases, and try playing different parts of the lane than I would normally play. I can only do this, and see what kind of positive/negative results I get....when other people are bowling and breaking down those areas of the lane, on which I am concentrating.

It's been very favorable so far, so I can't wait for regular league play.
