revs, wrist position and thumb release...
« on: February 01, 2004, 11:44:55 PM »
they are all hand-in-hand with each other. i am pretty mild on my revs so far, but i have had an instructor giving me some more pointers as of late.

we worked on my wrist position and coming BEHIND the ball. for all intents and purposes this is great and how it should be done. i love the feeling of the ball coming off the fingers and winding up ALOT harder than before. now then...

i seem to have issues with my thumb leaving the ball, and when it should happen. he wasn't critical of my dumping the ball in the gutter a few times, which is nice. but i felt like i couldn't control the damn thing half the time! when i would "hit" the ball, i knew it. it would wind up hard and MOVE. the lanes were pretty slick and after a couple shifts, so watching my ball mooooove thru the carry down like that was nice. but i need opinions.

when SHOULD the ball be coming off the thumb? i would keep as relaxed as i could, and one of 2 things would happen: i dumped it early and into the gutter or my thumb stayed in and the ball floundered down the lane in a 2-board moving, 6 total revs debacle. so, ideas and suggestions are GREATLY appreciated as i am trying to improve my deep play.

i don't care who makes it, how much it costs, or how sexy the ball looks. does it carry the 7 and level the deck? did i just beat you? aren't i clearing the heads with my $60 ball?

sawbones, explain your clock. is 12 o clock up towards my head? is it back towards my body, when holding the ball up? we are talking hand behind the ball, correct?

right now, i have a very consistent approach, 95% on the time i have AT MOST, 1 board of drift to the line (usually i am on the money), and i am square in my stance. my release timing is holding me back. i appreciate everything you've said... now if i only knew where your clock was pointing!!!
