Why is Roto Grip so much less expensive
« on: November 23, 2008, 01:21:42 AM »
Then companies like Storm, Brunswick, Hammer, Ebonite, 900 Global and Lane 1?  I think as many of us do that the Cell will be the ball of the year.  I didn't match up with the Cell but so many have.  The Cell pearl is only $119 and the sauce is $143 and the Virtual Gravity is $134 and the Agent Orange is $178.

Ebonite at one time was the cheapest ball out there, and no one bought them until they raised there prices! Now look at them. I used Ebonite for years along with Hammers. Its amazing to see how consumers think.

Went from throwing Ebonite and Hammer last year to Roto this year.  Very solid lineup with at a good price.  For those who haven't tried Roto Grip they will be pleasantly suprised I know I was.

Shipping at Buddies pro shop is free as well as taxes if they ship out of state.  So $119 +50=$169.  You pay $229 drilled + taxes?  Whats the taxes? Another $15.

I think the additional $31 dollars you paid was worth it to have your local pro shop drill the ball.  I live in CA and Buddies Pro shop drills my bowling balls also so it works for me.  Ball is still a great price at $119 Roto Grip) as compared to the other major manufactuers.

As for R&D, so many balls are cooming out with old technoligy but different comninations.  Several pieces coming out with the old  Boss weightblock and several coverstocks especially the Resurgance cover stock.  This is just an example.

You have to remember that until recently that Roto Grip was a very small company. Roughly 5 employees in Utah. Hank B. did most over the initial R&D and still has a petty good handle on it.
This will keep there cost down to a point.
They also don't belong to the ball of the month club.
So by strategically planning there releases it improves there products shelf life.
As for buying on line as opposed to bying locally.
You get what you pay for.
If it becomes defective during or after drilling after buying on line.
Good luck getting it replaced.
Most pro shops won't help you get it replaced.

All your information is correct Bass.

I bought a Lane 1 THS from Buddies Pro shop, for whatever reason the ball cracked.  Bill/Chris at Buddies asked me to take pictures of the ball (not send them the ball) and email the pictures to them.

The same day I sent the pictures to Buddies Pro shop I got a call from Bill saying they would drill and ship the new THS the following day.  I'm sure a lot of pro shops don't have that quality of customer service.

I can't speak for other internet shops, but the customer service at Buddies Pro shop is that good.

Thanks for the replies,
