SAnding Question
« on: January 31, 2007, 06:01:36 AM »
I was wondering if anyone else has an issue with when sanding your ball be it a abralon or sandpaper notice that at the top point and bottom point of your ball, it looks like it comes to a point, from looking at it from above, it is hard to explain in typing, it is like the light you see reflects to a point, not like looking at the side of the ball, this is only a problem on the top and bottom of the ball. I haven't noticed any problems with the roll of the ball, it is just i don't lkike seeing it. I keep the same pressure and duration of time sanding the top part of the ball as the side part of the ball going up and down a certain amount of times on each side. Is this normal or am I doing it wrong, and that is making this happen.

I have only noticed this on my reactive balls being my Black Widow, Hawgzilla, And Buzz, but I have seen no ill performance out of them, so if anyone can tel me what this is or if this is not right I would appreciate it. Thanks

Your talking about the sanding lines on the ball.
Thats normal when balls come from the factory they are sanded with a machine like the Haus resurfacing machine.Thats why they dont have that pattern of sanding lines on the ball.

heres a page telling about sanding a ball.

its normal, it happens only at the top where it looks reflective becuase of the sanding coming to a point. Its normal dont worry about it.

So long as you're sanding all six sides of the ball, you shouldn't have any problems.  Those parts where the lines reduce to a point are not as well sanded as further away, and just sanding the top and bottom can get a ball out of round.

If you're applying polish to other balls afterwards, that may be the reason you don't notice it on other equipment.  Or if you're taking those balls down to a lower grit but a higher grit on the other stuff.  Low-grit sanding tends to leave a lot more lines on the ball than higher-grit.

I am not just sanding the top and bottom, I sand in an up and down motion, in a reapeates motion to make it as even as possible. I sand the ball with the grips facing out towards me, I thought of turning it sideways and doing the ball at another angle, but thought then that might be on all four sides of the ball. I really don't understand the 6 six of the ball part, even though i read it in that article. I am sorta confused.

After sanding one of my balls today, i noticed the same thing. I asked someone and he said that it is an optical illusion. It just looks like there is a point there. As long as you do not feel one, you are fine...

BOWLING IS FUN NO MATTER WHAT YOU SCORE. BUT A 300 IS ALWAYS NICE.

STRIKE ZONE, ONSLAUGHT & PYRO. STAND 22 AND THROW 10 OUT TO 5 AND CRUSH THE POCKET. AT LEAST THAT IS THE PLAN OF THE NIGHT...

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD BOWLING!!!

Just image the ball is in the box it came in.Then image how you turn the box
so each of the six sides is on top each time you sand. When sanding you'll flip the ball over 5 times.

No its the other way around. The top sands faster than the sides will.
