why??
« on: April 20, 2010, 09:55:33 PM »
this is a mystery to me.... why do i bowl so well with other peoples equipment?? ive always found that i bowl extremely well with other peoples equipment, although i dontt bowl bad with my own. here some examples:

1)i was bowling a non sanctioned doubles tournament last year and i started of with my own equipment and struggled really bad, i hit something along the lines of a 520 (id entered on a 205 average) so just to see what they wre like i tried my partners balls (with his permission of course) and what do you know i went and hit a 703 and finished up not far from my entering average, even though his span is a bit too small as well as his finger grips and thumb.

2) another time a couple of weeks later in league, again i was struggling, a 154 and a 162 to for the first two games of league so i tried the same guys balls again and managed to hit in a 268 for 586.

anyway to cut a long story short ive used his and other peoples balls many times when im in a tight jam and theyve always worked for me.
now, some of the better bowlers at local centre say i bowl so well with them because i dont expect to hit the big scores with other peoples balls, but seeing as i normally bowl so well with them i do now expect to bowl well with them so surely it cant be that.

i would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this subject.

thanks
ryan

It probably has to do with your concentration.  You are paying more attention to everything when you are using someones equipment that is not your own.

You're probably just a complete weirdo...

I'm willing to bet that you're not forcing it with other people's equipment.  A subconscious adjustment can make a huge difference if it results in the ball coming off your hand a little smoother.

If it's not mental, I see two other possibilities.  Could be that your balls fit you so badly that almost anything else gives you a better release.  Or your balls are layed out with a pin to PAP distance, MB placement, etc. that really doesn't fit your game and again almost anything else is better.  --  JohnP
