Title: Wick machine question
Post by: blesseddad on August 13, 2013, 01:19:18 PM
Who still uses the AMF/Qubica wick type machines? We use one at our home house due to the over lane ball returns and a spray machine would not fit under neath them.

So, the question is this? The wicks have part numbers attached to them, but in the interest of running new patterns on the lanes, the pattern might say "Use a 10 and then two 7, and ...." but since the wicks are not marked, how do you know which wick is what number? What is the easiest way to tell the difference between the wicks?

We used to have a phoenix machine and the wick numbering system was how many boards the wick covered. The wick came in a roll and were cut to fit the pads. If i remember correctly.

So then what controls the amount of oil? Is it the foam strip that controls amount and the wick is just the number of boards that the wick distributes the oil?

Try bowltech.com.  But if I remember correctly the machines are still programmable to tell when the kick the tanks on and off to help control the front to back taper.  We had an old silver bullet upgraded to an HVO and it had multiple tanks.  But it's been so long I cannot remember how it worked..  lol

Amount of oil is determined by machine speed and distance before the tank kicks off the transfer roller.  The flow rate through the wick is only controlled by using regular or high flow wicks.

What type of machine do you have? Is it an S-type? You may be able to download the operator manual which helps.
