WII Bowling ..... Help or Hinderence?
« on: December 04, 2009, 11:52:42 AM »
Ever since we got our new 55" LCD/LED TV I have wondered about getting a WII, primarily for bowling. I was curious as to those who have it and use it for bowling "practice" feel it helps or hinders their "real" bowling.

I have only played bowling on WII once, for one game so I do not have an opinion.

Any thoughts?

i dont see it helping at all. A wiimote is completely different than a bowling ball

I can only speak for wii sports bowling.  Neither in my opinion.  You don't take a full approach, I personally take a one step if anything just for speed and feel.  Then again, depending on how you play on wii bowling there could be a slight chance of it messing with your real bowling release or swing.

I have Wii Sports, Wii Sports resort, and Brunswick Pro Bowling... none of them seem to help my game but they certainly haven't hurt it, and both the Wii Sports games are alot of fun. Don't really recommend Brunswick Pro bowling, I'm not a big fan...

i want them to take the wii sports and just expand on it, put balls that hook more or less on there, oil patterns, and make it like a "career" and the wuld have a decent game that was arcadeish enough to sale but might take and appeal to bowlers.

I don't want to sound rude or condescending, but this question is a sign of the times, and a sign of peoples understanding of actual bowling.

There is absolutely NO WAY that Wii bowling could even remotely help you actually bowl better. It isn't even remotely close to anything you actually do in real bowling.

Wii bowling is fun (yes, I have done it), but that's ALL it is

Hey Greg,

Maybe they can get "Wi" 300 rings to sport around.

I hear you on that. We have the regular Wii sport and the Wii sports resort as well as the Brunswick bowling. I will not play him on any of them. I am happy to get 160-180 on them and he is around 220. I suck at them so I don't play against him at all.

the wii systems might remotely help in the areas of targeting and adjusting and maybe timing but if you dont have major short comings dont believe its going to make a 180 bowler a 200 bowler.

How can Wii help you in real bowling, when the best way to score in Wii is with a back up ball off the left gutter???

I coach Jrs, one of the more promising kids (11) told me he picked up the 7-10 on Wii.  Both me and his mother replied "And?  How does that help you shoot 200 in league/Tournaments?"

I don't think it can "hurt" you, but I've played it a couple times, and there's no way it helps either.  It's a video game, end of story.

I am going to play devil's advocate here. Wii bowling is a lot like real bowling! There are four different balls and each one has different hook amounts and shapes! You control the amount of hook by your set down point(loft) and the turn of your hand, just like real bowling.Speed control is critical. The timing of your release of the trigger is critical to consistency, just as in real bowling. I am convinced the designers of Wii bowling did their homework and probably even consulted some high level bowlers or ball reps for info to make the game more realistic.
