Why is it sad?  Do they not know what the prize fund and the odds of them winning a percentage of it are before they join the tour?  Do they not choose that particular vocation anyway?  Do you lament the restaurant cook who loves to cook but tops out a 35K year?  How about the person who chooses physical therapist to help people knowing that the top jobs pay about $50K on average?  Where is the public outcry?

Really, what is it about pro bowlers that have you wringing your hands and falling to your knees wailing about their financial incomes?  It's their choice! Bowling centers have limited space so the take from the gate is limited.  None of these guys know how to market themselves so they don't build up a following willing to pay to see them.  Or as the movie A League of Ordinary Gentlemen showed, some are unwilling to market themselves or help the PBA market itself, right Walter Ray?  He showed exactly what is wrong with the Tour by that attitude.  Hell, they all did when they just showed up at the first meeting with the new owners and didn't have one idea or suggestions on how to run the Tour themselves, they just accepted what was told to them.  They need to take over the Tour themselves, figure out how to sell out arenas (big gate money), and generate interest.  They start selling out arenas, the networks will come.  The networks come, the sponsors will come.  The sponsors come, the money will come and then all you guys can sleep well at night knowing they are consistently making more than teachers do in a year.  Yay.
Long Gone also posts the honest truth which is why i respect him. He posts these things knowing some may not like it.

I chose a profession that took me places (different countyries/state) but made around what Ryan Shafer made. I loved my job, just like Ryan loves the tour. For me, money wasn't that important as long as I loved what I did. I met famous athletes, actors and actress, politicians, and cooked for millionaires and a billionaire.

But after 12 yrs., I REALIZED working really hard in this field wasn't PAYING THE BILLS and the stress level wasn't worth ruining my health. So, I made a career changed.  These guys on tour can probably make a career change. Or, went to college part time and get a degree - something to fall back on.

I made that change and earn between PDW and OSKU. (But, I'm still broke :D)

I'd be 7th on that list, but I work more than 14 weeks a year.

There is one good thing about the shortened season. Most of these guys can bowl most of the tour using vacation time from a regular 9-5 job.

I'm sure many of these guys having other lines of income, even as supplemental incomes through clinics/endorsements? and other stuff.. If not wow, imagine being in the top 50 bowlers on the planet and earn 20-30k..

Sad, I heard the 100th golfer in world earns 200k and any player player soccer in EPL earns  1mill plus each year..

With bigger and more sponsorships, Tv deals, the money would go up.. I remember reading Parker earned a couple years in a row (think it was late 90's or early 2000's) about 230.000...
