Do you think he will win it this year? He was second in points behind Sean Rash, had 3 PBA wins, and finished all top 10 in every major. It's a vote this year so hard to tell.

Jason gave us a live interview via Skype and made his case.

Rash all the way, this shouldn't even be that close honestly, no disrespect for Fagan, Belmo, Duke or PDW. Rash led in Earnings, Average, Points, and won the TOC. Hands down he should be POY, period.

Yeah, 1 MAJOR win AND he led the PBA in the three most important categories, in my opinion, for determining POY. Belmo had a great year, winning 3 titles, but IMHO his season just doesn't quite match up to Rash. The only category he is ahead of Rash is in titles (with none of them being majors), which isn't enough to put him over the top. If Belmo had a major win amongst his three titles, then we would have an interesting debate for sure!

Sorry, if he had a major win amongst his 3 titles, then there would be absolutely no debate. I think people forget what 3 wins in a season means. This has been an extremely difficult thing to do and has almost always guaranteed a POY. Rash and Fagan did not have 3 wins. Rash had an awesome year, but think about that. He was so close so many times and couldn't get more than the one win, albeit a big one. I think it's important not to forget what a feat it is to have 3 wins in a season.

I would usually agree that 3 wins should be more than enough to win or be considered at least for player of the year. However, since all of his wins came in the same venue, it just seems to cheapen the wins for me personally. Had we won those title on a "real" tour, I don't think there would really be a debate even with Rash's major.

Agree. This is part of the point I was trying to make. Normally, 3 wins would likely outweigh a single major. I agree that the single venue thing is not ideal. However, Sean had a great showing and couldn't win one of those. It just highlights how difficult wins are, despite being in the same venue.
Like others have said, Rash did lead in points also. On the merits, this is a very close race. When you put it to a vote, there's going to be a lot of personal opinions.

There are so many wrinkles in this season as compared to traditional:
1) WSOB, contested on the same high friction lane surface, consisting of about half the available titles, then switching to a new set in an arena type setting for the finals. Several of the patterns played alot different than during qualifying.
2) The influx of foreign players
3) Inclusion of EBT titles as PBA titles
4) Weekend "Extra Frame" tournaments counted as PBA Titles.
5) All "champions" allowed to compete in the TOC.
6) Exempt tour all but eliminated (completely gone next season)
Making sense of all this and trying to cast a responsible vote was not the easiest thing to do.

I don't envy having to make a decision.

They've used the arena final setting for years and they always bothered me since they are not the same lanes the tournament was actually contested on. It's basically bowling all week in one house and then deciding that house's tournament in another house on Sunday... Of course, that's just the pure competitor view which doesn't take into account the "show", finances, etc.
