Good rule of thumb is that a league should be paying double what it cost you to bowl for the season per person for 1st place.

What ever happened to the Trophies, Patches and pride about winning? Today it is all about money. Just like brackets... everyone complains they loose money in brackets... but no one has the "b@lls" to bowl someone straight heads up anymore (as in matches).

Point money is just the most rediculous thing. I pay 22 per nite with a chance to win 29 per point (4 points per night) for a 5 man team. 36 weeks x 4 pernite = 144 total wins x $29 per point = 4176 / 5 = 835 per person if we never lost a point... and it cost me 792 to bowl with ~10 per nite for lineage.

I say, make it simple for all... lower the nightly fee to 15 and pay 2500 first, 1500 second and 1000 3rd. Let me stop paying extra money every night that I risk because one of my teammates decided to use two hands suddenly, and let me bowl another night per week.

Todays bowling is a JOKE everyway I looked at. Scoring, integrity, costs, prize funds ... its just a shame that we got here where we are.

I've seen this complaint before.
Unless you have league sponsors that put a lot of money in the prize fund, The first place team won't make it's money back. Unless you make the prize fund extremely top heavy.
But this will lose your teams on the low end and if you lose them, your prize fund will drop, which will make it just that much more worse.

One league here started a secondary prize fund that teams can buy into if they want. It's very top heavy, so you can make more money.

When calculating what you "made" you must account for how much you pay in linage and secratary fees.  What you are looking at is how much did you pay into the prize fund each week and total and how much over that are you getting back.  As long as you are getting back more than you put into the prize fund you are doing fine.  Do you really expect every body in your league to pay for your bowling?

I agree with the comments that if you expect to get a larger payout you will need to find a sponsor to help your prize fund.  Expecting to have your bowling totally funded by the rest of the teams just because you won is not realistic IMO.  Look at it this way your team won and it ended up costing you less than the teams that finished in the bottom 3.  If all the money goes to the top two or three teams pretty soon you won't have other teams to bowl with.

The monday league my team is poised to win is a 3 dollar difference a man from overall first to second place.  315 for first 300 for second split 5 ways... talk about incentive!!! woohooo

It depends on how you look at it.  Your total league fees consist of Lineage and  Prize Fund.  How much was contributed to the prize fund?  And how much did you get back.  The house has to get paid too.  Just my thoughts.

Join the pots..  King of the Hill, Scratch Survivor, Handicap Survivor, Strike Pot, Mystery pots, side bets w/opponents etc....  Or search for a league who does give above & beyond the cost of bowling.  Probably hard too find.  Hate to see the league fee for it also.  Then, you better win.

Cheap bowlers bowl cheap leagues for low costs and measly prize funds, then FIGJAM week in week out about how good they're bowling on ballreviews.com.

Real bowlers bowl action leagues for big dollars where the money is and shoe up every week to perform for that grand prize and let their ball and place they finish at the end of the year do the talking.

Which bowler are you?

Shoe up where the big boys play, or stay where the crybaby FIGJAMers who want to believe they are a big dog play and shut up.

13 bucks for league.  HA, that doesn't cover lineage most places.  One of the Colonel's leagues almost triple that in price per week and First place is getting $4250 a man.

And just where are these leagues? Would it be worth a plane flight every week just to bowl against a SUPERSTAR like yourself

There were a few in Dallas that paid really well.  Dr. Pepper/Pepsi Masters comes to mind.  At one time many had really good paying brackets and high pots.  Truth is that bowling leagues will seldom pay back enough money to make a living. If you want to make the money, put up the money and find the right league.  Bowler beware....   We had a guy at our old center that wanted to get into a high dollar league.  He was pretty good.  Came back a couple weeks later complaining, "some women won all the high pots".  Really who???  Who's Carolyn Dorin?
