I think some clarification is needed. Are you asking about the Pros?

Such as:

High=Pro
Med=Typical league bowler
Low=Beginner

???

If thats the case then the Pros would average about 240 on a THS...if thats not the case, then I would go with pumpkinA''s answer...it would be a bit lower

230
215
195

Would depend on the shot you are playing on.  At one center in the area I bowl one of the better bowlers has a 227 ave.  in another center he is only avg. 211.  The highest average in our 5 man 18 team league on Thursday night is 213 and the same individual is ave. 228 om another house.  Not sure you can make a broad comparison between all houses when there is a wide difference between the shots houses put out.

It's all about matchup on THS...you would be surprised that most pros would probably average 225ish on a house shot.  Their games and ball rolls are designed to not have much area, and to read midlanes...not tophat conditions.

The predicted averages for the beginner level are much too high. True beginners (assuming we're talking about beginner fingertip bowlers trying to throw a hook) is going to be 160-170 on most house shots.

For the top house guys, anything at 215 or over is "good," IMO. It's hard to differentiate how much of what's over 215 is due to skill or especially soft conditions. Within the last decade, I've bowled at two different houses where the highest average in the entire house was around 190 due to old oil machines, dead side boards and pins, warped lane beds thanks to water leakage, etc.

Anyone who can average around 190-215 can repeat shots, make a modicum of spares and knows the game. Everyone wants to look "cool" by slamming THS and soft conditions but you don't average 215 for 36 weeks if you're a total fool. Otherwise, everyone would do it, and they don't.

High: 215+
Med: 185-215
Low: <185

Maybe it's just the area I bowl in, but most guys that I see averaging 215+ are very good to great bowlers. Sure there might be some shots that make those 215 guys 225 guys, but they can all repeat shots.  There are some "send it right with a bunch of revs" guys in that group, but I think we are too quick to judge.  While they may not be able to tell you what board they hit at the breakpoint, they know a bad shot when they throw it.  And honestly it's the guys who dump it up 10 with no hand that get all the luck anyway.

Interesting topic.  A bit overgeneralized, but I'll bite.

The average "average" in my home house is 215. We have guys that are 227-230. At another house that I bowled at last year, myself and two other guys were averaging over 230 (233 for me)...it all depends on so many variables.

It's relative to the location.  Honestly in my center the 240 that some of you guys are putting for high would be absolute god in my house....hell even 230 would be amazing...at another center than I won't name 15 minutes away however..good luck with 230 getting you on the high average board in any league.  So I guess in my center I'd say

High: 220+

Med:  190-219

Low: 189 and less

Most of the talk about how easy the THS is comes from those who still struggle to a accomplish anything on any shot. Want to rationalize your own shortcomings? Throw stones at those who have found at least a little success even on generally softer THS conditions.

The problem in defining the numbers for high, medium and low is that there are too many variables. In my area, for a given bowler, there can be 15 pins average difference in different houses due lane surface variations alone.

In the softer houses, for the better set of bowlers in the area, I would generalize the following:

230
215
205

Even the above is rough at best. Another thing to consider is the ability of bowlers in a given area. I know of a few houses with softer (higher potential scoring) conditions, but the majority of bowlers in those houses just aren't that skilled, and it's reflected in lower overall scores.

In short, lots of things to consider.

I can't believe some of you have 200+ at the low level.  Are you kidding me?  If THAT'S low than what is 190, 180 and even 160?  I agree that average are pretty house specific but 200 isn't "low" even at the easiest house in the world.

It all depends on the House and how you match up.  Our House Stud last year ave was 241. This year same house same league he is down to 220 New oiler made the difference. The Owner said it is the same shot. I am up 6 pins up in one league and down 4 in another same house go figure. So in our house this year I would  say.

High 220+

Med  205+

Low  185+
