The predicted averages for the beginner level are much too high. True beginners (assuming we're talking about beginner fingertip bowlers trying to throw a hook) is going to be 160-170 on most house shots.
For the top house guys, anything at 215 or over is "good," IMO. It's hard to differentiate how much of what's over 215 is due to skill or especially soft conditions. Within the last decade, I've bowled at two different houses where the highest average in the entire house was around 190 due to old oil machines, dead side boards and pins, warped lane beds thanks to water leakage, etc.
Anyone who can average around 190-215 can repeat shots, make a modicum of spares and knows the game. Everyone wants to look "cool" by slamming THS and soft conditions but you don't average 215 for 36 weeks if you're a total fool. Otherwise, everyone would do it, and they don't.
