Why are wood lanes easier to score on?

On wood lanes the oil seems to dry up and not carry down like it does on synthetic.  I have also found that the ball doesn't jump as hard on wood lanes compared to synthetic.

Just keep in mind that it all depends on the lane pattern that's put down.  Wood lanes are not always easier than synthetics.

The oil stays longer on wood lanes that on synthetic but I prefer synthetic..

Well, yesterday I was bowling on some AMF wood lanes and bowled scores of 259, 242, 236 and 222. This was on wood lanes with a medium-heavy oil house shot. I usually bowl on synthetic lanes for my leagues and never scored like this! My current average on synthetic is 181. My Special Agent was killing the pins and only two shots left a pin on the deck.

In general, the wood lanes will hook more because the wood is softer than synthetic lanes.  The combination of more hook and fewer over/under reactions, that you often see on synthetics, contribute to the higher scores.

I think it is just as easy to score on wood as it is synthetic. it is just a mental thing, adjust and play your game and don't think about the difference synthetic skates a little more and wood creates friction earlier just watch your marks and and make adjustments.

What works better on wood lanes, Pearl Particle or Solid Reactive cover stocks?

Depends on the strength of the friction on the lanes. I've found that usually reactive solids work better to begin the night and then a particle pearl or reactive pearl may be necessary as the oil push and dries up. I bowl in an all wood house on Mondays, started the season using a Solution Power Plus Ex and ended the season using a Hammer Raw Toxic.

I disagree.  In my experience oil stays on synthetics longer, although it moves instead of seemingly disappearing.

As far as the type of ball to use, I generally end up throwing weaker reactive pearls in my area due to low oil volume.  On fresh lanes I have had success with solid reactives and pearl particles for the first game or so, but after that I tend to get burn problems due to my rev dominant style.

Wood dries up faster because of the topography of the lane.  Synthetics hold oil longer but it moves around more.  Wood does create more friction so use weaker balls more spin or weak drills on strong balls
