R .. you did say THIS YEAR .. if the leagues are SANCTIONED .. they will be reported to the ABC and your CARD will show the HIGHEST AVERAGE. Since you referenced THIS YEAR .. I GUESS you are carrying the higher average in the first few weeks of SUMMER BOWLING. Average isn't OFFICIAL unless you complete a certain number of games .. I've forgotten the MAGIC NUMBER .. but until then it's NOT TO BE REPORTED (referring to tournament play).

Add this to the list of "a lot"

Summer leagues are frequently sanctioned, although there are some that never get the 21 games in for them to be recognized as controlling average.

As to R-Zitro's query, the question on the 220 effectively becomes one of how many games that average covers?  I'm admittedly a little perplexed on even trying to fathom summer league averages being discussed this early when I still have a league that has not finished its long season yet (good old fashioned 36-week league)...makes it hard to figure that anyone would be close enough on games to even be wondering about whether summer will become the new book average.

...What Michelle said.

Summer leagues are usually sanctioned.  I got a ring from one last year.  Your summer average usually doesn't count against your book average, even if you hit the required number of games to establish an average (usually 21).  You could average 220 for the summer, and still use the 175 from winter.

Until recently, my Summer leagues were 3 games x 13 weeks which is 39 games. Often, BUT NOT EVERYWHERE, it takes 45 games to enter the local record books as "sanctioned".

The last few years I have been in Summer leagues with 5 games x 14 weeks and 4 games x 14 weeks, both of which are well above the 45 game local limit.

Again, many leagues, due to the immense amount of sandbagging that has gone on (or let's say, has been revealed) in the last 10 years or so, now look at a 21 game average.

R-Zitro, I'm afraid, your 220 avg is probably going to be your "official" average.

If the league has an ABC/WIBC sanction sheet and you are eligible for ABC/WIBC awards on honor scores, then the league is sanctioned.  Whether the average goes is recognized by the local association as a book average is another thing.

However, ABC/WIBC recognize any sanctioned league average over 21 games.  Other tournament entities look at the winter (fall/spring) averages and only move to summer if there is no other average available.  And, last but not least, let's not forget the groups that require you to use your current average of 21 or more games if it is ten or more pins above the previous season's book.
