Work Outing
« on: March 17, 2010, 04:22:09 AM »
Ok, ...our work area is having an afternoon bowling event tomorrow.

Question:
99% of the people just bowl for 'fun' ....

Do I:
A) Bring what I have (3 ball roller, 2+spare ball)
B) or...tranfer just 1 ball and my plastic to an over the shoulder tote, so I don't look like a 'bowler' ...

Lanes were toast and I couldn't keep my ball out of the gutter.

Needless to say, I didn't do very well..

We do that here on a monthly basis,  I'd say roughly a quarter of the 25 or so participants are serious bowlers so I bring 2 balls and my spare ball with me.

Depends on which group I'm bowling with as to whether I'll use resin or plastic.

A couple of months ago, I did make an unusual wager on a game with one of the regular bowlers.

We would pick a house ball for the other to bowl with, the only provision being that we had to be able to hold on to the ball and actually throw it.

He thought he was being cute, after I picked out for him an old beat up, chewed up Inferno, he hands me a 8LB plastic kids ball, I could just barely get my fingertips into.  Being the bet was only for a brew, I said I'd go with it.

Don't ask me how, but going thumbless (something I've never tried before), I whupped him good 225 - 148.

Only thing is, he won't go for it again.

You didn't hear that from YOUR MOM!

Linds when they were made in USA... Nice, can't fault you for that.  Kinda wish I still had mine, but synthetic approaches made a switch necessary for me to get adjustable soles/heels.  My Linds were way too slick most of the time on synthetic approaches.

Get there before everyone else Jeff & change into your shoes & just leave one of your 3 balls in your bag unless you need it, or pretend it's someone elses...  Good luck, sounds like you need it....

Okay Jeff,

So carrying 3 balls makes you look like a bowler, but 2 doesn't? If you are dealing with people who don't bowl in leagues..I don't think it matters.

Take all three and show no mercy!!! If they know you are bowler, you better live up to that expectation or you will never hear the end of it.

The douchebag comment was meant to have a next to it, ....sorry!

I just brought all 3, it was easier than swapping stuff into a duffle. Good point by the way, 2 vs. 3, doesn't matter, does it?  We had friends over for dinner last night, and I just didn't have time to mess with it.

Only 2 people know I used to bowl a lot, so, ....there's not that much 'expectation' to live up to .  This is a large group,... 25 (5) person teams!  And, only  a handful know me, so, I'm safe!

Will report back tomorrow!

That big a group, and that many people you don't know... Be careful who you bet money with, there could be a few sharks in the pool with you.

I was going to say, bring plastic.  I did one of these once at a "Fun Fest" center.  They had a "party room" with music videos going above the pinsetter faces.  Lanes were dry as dust, I was hooking a blue dot edge to edge with a broken wrist release.

The others were trying to show me how to throw a straight ball so I wouldn't have all those strange leaves.

Do take your good shoes, however, as the approaches are iffy.
