Need Jackpot Ideas....
« on: November 04, 2008, 04:14:18 AM »
In a 40 team league and would like to run a jackpot, would like to do something a little different (Must be a scratch pot), here is what is currently being ran:

High game 1 and 2
Big P rotates between all 3 games
Totals
Eliminations Cut 190 then 200
High Game of the night

I was thinking  2 out of 3 or possibly a 3rd game special any idea? THANKS!

High 3rd game pot does very well in both my leagues.

A couple that I have seen done.
Doubles pot. We would draw a number and be matched up with whoever has the other number. I think we payed $5 to get into $1 would go to each game and $2 for series.
Knock out pot. Never got into it since it was started after I stopped bowling in that league.
Have seen many leagues just do a high game pot for the night.

We used to run something called crossovers.  It is a basic doubles pot, but you can be paired with whoever you want and with as many people as you want.  Cost would be about $2 per person per matchup ($2 for a three game block, not $2 a game).  Have seen people paired up with more than 20 bowlers.  Has worked well both scratch and handicap.  I have seen pots go for more than $300/game.  Only down side, this can be quite a lot of work when bowlers are signing in, especially for a 40 team league like yours.  Good luck.

I am starting to like the doubles pot ideas beacause money seems to generate the best I think that the doubles idea by HOODLUM sounds good, so do you think I should create sheets to give out so that one person can have all names underneath theres? So if I get in 5 the 5 people I get in with can all be on my sheet. I think $2 would be a good place to start......so should I do it just for 3rd game, probably best?

We do a mystery game jackpot.  It involves no skill whatsoever, so I usually get about 96% of the league to participate.

It is $1 to get in.  I collect until the middle of the second game.  I have 2 sets of cards from ace thru ten [1-10].  I then have the hotties at the snack bar select one card from each set of ten.  Say, for example, they choose "7" then "2".  Those are the mystery numbers.  I then go to the PA system and announce the numbers.  If any bowlers' scratch score has "72" as the last 2 numbers, then I ask them to bring their score sheets to the desk to verify.  Any winners split the pot.  If no winners, then there is carryover until the next week.

Of the 64 bowlers in my league, I usually get $59-61 per week.  It carried over for 5 weeks and I just paid out $293 dollars this past Thursday.

Again, it's fun and with no skill involved it can include everyone of all skill levels in your leagues.
