Working the inside of the ball only for Pros?
« on: February 09, 2009, 12:18:40 AM »
Randy Pedersen said a few times on TV that while amateurs work the outside of the ball, Pros work the inside of the ball. Now, I would like to know if some amateurs work the inside like the Pros.If not why?  Is it more difficult to do? What are the pros and cons?

Yes some do.. Most dont. I'm not gonna say all good bowlers do because good is relative to whom you speak to but most elite amatuers do..

Working from the inside of the ball is in regards to where the bowler's hand is on the down swing.
If you have a straight line that goes from the shoulder through the arm, hand and bowling ball, the line would distinguish the inside as opposed to the outside. The inside would be the body side and the outside would be the opposite.
Working the ball from the inside means that it is easier for the hand to rotate around the ball, creating a stronger release and more revolutions.
If you think of Pete Weber, his hand is on the inside of the ball, more so than most. His hand rotates the ball creating a strong release.

I work the inside but have some problems adding more axis rotation consistently,I've been focusing on finger pressure and leading with different fingers to consistently add AR.it's easier to adjust with hand positions but working the inside of the ball is more accurate and I see way more power in the pins.

I've been working at this for a little while now.  I don't have to have my target as far right as I used to for starters, yet I can still get the ball to the same breakpoint.  My release is even more effortless, upping my accuracy.  Not only do I see the benefits in term of overall ball motion, but the physical benefits as well.  I don't cup the ball as much as I used to.  I also don't find myself forcing the ball down the lane on occasion, thus not wearing my self out.

Of course, my mind still wants to do it the old way every once in a while, but that will pass soon.
