Title: worst ball of 2003
Post by: no1bucsfan on December 23, 2003, 09:44:17 PM
What was by far, the most overrated, overpriced, worst hitting, pile if doggie-doo made this year?

Thought it is difficult to really say anything out there is terrible anymore, I have to say that the X Factor ReLoaded was probably the DUD front runner.

I was afraid someone would ask this question .. I've used the GOLDEN NUGGET twice .. first time on OIL (med/HVY) .. ball was GREAT .. knew what to expect .. adjusted when necessary .. blew the pins away .. second attempt allies were med/dry ..  different house .. BALL WAS A FLOP! If I wanted a CONDITION SPECIFIC ball .. I would have bought something MUCH CHEAPER .. In my books .. this ball is a FLOP!

X-Factor Reloaded is an absolutely horrible ball....Several regional pros in my area got rid of theirs within a week....big time flop considering the Deuce and the Pearl were very solid balls...

I would have to go with the throttle-R. I haven't thrown one, but I have heard many horror stories about quick ball death with this one.

Come on guys, in order to call a ball a flop, you have to use it more than 3 or 6 games.. Some balls take longer to get used to than others.. Thats common sense..

Also, just because you "heard" a ball or series was a flop, that means nothing. If you have used the ball, then make the comments why it's the worst of 2003.

Joe Falco, if you don't want that POS Golden Nugget, message me. I will buy it from you!! LOL..

Joe Falco, you are one funny guy.  You used the GN on the oil condition it's meant for (med/hvy oil), and it worked great.  Then you take it to a lane condition it is not meant for (med/dry), and it sucks, so you call it a condition-specific flop.  Hahahahahaha...

When people say a ball is "condition-specific", they don't mean it can't be used on everything from dirt to a flood.  There's no ball that can!

Did you at least put some extra polish on the GN before using it on med/dry lanes?

JKiser. And why isn't that reason enough to call a ball a flop? I don't have the right to call it a flop because I wasn't dumb enough to spendd 200 dollars on it?  If 30 people in your local house tell you a ball sucks, are you going to go buy it? If you are then I bet a lot of people here have throttles they would sell you.

Seadrive. That is exaclty what condition specific means. You can use a ball on one condiiton and not the other. Joe was right in calling the ball condition specific. You are right, all balls are, but some balls can handle a wider variety of conditions than others can.

example: I can use my inferno on more conditions than someone else could use their swamp monster.

Pirhana Over priced. ball was good, just the price it was at killed any chance of it selling. The people that threw it, liked it but hated the price tag with it.

Reloaded seemed a fizzer for most, needed polish. Same with Phenom. Saw a couple Wireds Die as well.

Ebonite hammer didn't have too many balls in the can this year, which was a surprise.

Iceemquick. I guess I wasn't specific enough before. I meant without tweaking the cover at all. no sanding, no polish. When I first got it, I sanded with 600, then polished with 1000. Just to get rid of the over/under from the box condiiton. Haven't messed with it since except to clean it. I can use it from a medium heavy oil condiiton, to a broke down light oil condiiton and it works just fine. I am noying I could use it on a totally flodded lane, but with the porper adjustments and a tight enough throw, I could. Same thing with desert dry lanes. Throw it outside, no hand, 18-19 mph, would work just fine.

How some of you feel about your lane 1 products,(which I have nothing against), is how I feel about my inferno. I honestly don't think there is any condition that it can't handle if thrown right. I only have two balls that I carry with me, my inferno, and an old black turbo urethane,(for my spares).

Besides, how often do you run into anything with more oil than a typical house shot, or drier than the third game of a second league of the night?

My worse ball this year is the original X-Factor, with the Lane 1 Blueberry next. Both were total Duds for me.

My best ball was the Lane 1 Emerald with the Ebonite V2 Pearl next. Both are super balls for me.

IceEmQuick .. above is what I said and you suggested:
------------------------------------------------------------------
I can use my GN from Medium light(VERY highly polished) to Flood(dull) and get a reaction of some sort. Knowing Joe Falco's history of bashing certain balls, I don't put much stock in his reviews,
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the difference in our thoughts on the GN is that you suggest ADJUSTING THE COVER FOR CERTAIN CONDITIONS. You are a better man then me .. I don't believe in ADJUSTING THE COVER every time the condition changes .. you do .. you're a better man then me. I don't DISLIKE the lane 1 balls .. I THINK THEY ARE OVER PRICED .. perhaps you heard me say that before ..

If I remember correctly this topic had something to do with WORSE BALL of 2003 .. sorry you don't agree with me .. guess you agree with all the others .. I UNDERSTAND .. I THINK!

Vicious Attack, Obsession, Addiction, and anything made by Columbia.  The absolute worst one had to be the Blazing Inferno, hands down.  Haven't heard ONE good word about it, and one of my buddies had one, and said it was the biggest piece of trash he's ever thrown.  Watching him throw it, yeah, he's right.

"You ever heard of these eatin' britches?  I used to date a girl that was into them, so I go out and get her five pairs of the strawberry eatin' britches.  I had to get five cause I usually end up eating a couple on the way to her house.  It's a good thing they don't make 'em in biscuits 'n gravy, I tell you what . . "

LOL, everyball is condition specific.

I nominate everyball made in the 2003.

And LMMFAO at anybody who thinks they can use an inferno on any condition. In a flood, its skid city, and in the dry it rolls out like a champ.

Throttle R totally, ball had WAY to much backend and would never stop or slow down as more games went on it, hit like a truck when at the pocket, just to much work getting it there

Best ball has to be the blazing inferno, ball gets alot of length, has great back end, very controllable, hits great, tons of messenger pins

What would life be like without Columbia and Brunswick?

From what I saw the Apex Addiction, Hammer Viscious Attack didn't do much also the Columbia Spirit II bowlers just didnt like this one overall.

This one is EASY.  The Throttle-R.  Worst pile of doggy doo to come out in a while.  Horrible HORRIBLE coverstock core combination.  And it ain't just my experience personally...almost everyone who I have seen throw one has HATED the darn thing.

I love my throttle-r to me it was the bestball ever made. I have been had a blast with mine. Everyone else here loves them. I only now one person that hates his. I went with a 3.5 by 4 drilling it works great for medium oil. Skates to far on heavy oil. To me I love skid snap reactions I put enough hand in the ball I can play any line I want to on medium oil. If you needed the ball to move early forget it. This ball loves oily head and dry backends.
You can send me the throttle series balls you hate I will take them

I wasn't impressed with the Vicious Attack.  It carried well and hit good but didn't hook near as much as Hammer said it would.  It was a great med to med dry for me nothing more.  I traded it for a Bruiser.

That was the only newer piece of equipment I tried this year.

The Throttle was perfectly acceptable and the Throttle Up is quite good.  I know one person other than you and your buddies who liked the Throttle R of more than a dozen who drilled it.  He is very heavy handed and has substantial sideroll -- which, as I said in my review, might type of bowler who might like this ball -- the R tends to even out his breakpoint problems.  It is for that reason that I sold him my Throttle R -- yep, I recommended it to him as an alternative to some other equipment he was considering.  However, all this proves is that most balls fit someone's game.  For most general players, the Throttle R was not a good choice, while the Throttle was better and many folks have done well with the Throttle Up.

ANY VIZ-A-BALL!!!  Really, guys.  The question was "over priced, worst hitting".  Since when does someone rave about spending $150 on a ball that doesn't hook 2 boards unless you are on sandpaper, can't resurface it if there is any damage?  I work at a center that loves viz-a-ball leagues, and I have had more people complain because the center scratches, knicks, or gauges the ball only to look at them and say it is unfixable.  At least with other balls, you can resuface them to an extent and you might lose some reaction.  Is it cool to throw a ball with your favorite beer or race car driver on it?  Absolutely.  But, what happens when the ball comes out of the ball return with significant lane damage?  Can't fix it and they are very hard to find another since pro shops do not carry these balls regularly like other balls.  I would just rather spend the $60 on a Target Zone or White Dot.  Outside of the viz-a-balls, I would have to say the Reloaded is the biggest dud of the year.

Track Super Freak.  They hyped the hell out of this ball's ability to handle oil, what a joke.  I don't mind condition specific balls if they actually perform on the condition that it was designed for, this one didn't.

That's what I am trying to figure out. Worked good the first month (August)that I had it, then League play started and the Blueberry quit never to work again regardless of sanding grit and regardless of polish or no polish......It turned into a P.O.S...... and with the Emerald being so strong and powerful on such a wide range of conditions probably didn't help it any.

Ty, in reality....... after it beat you every game we bowled and you left town and moved to KC, I think it got depressed and quit.

I've only purchased two new balls this year. Cherry Bomb first then the Inferno. Since i listed the Inferno as the best I guess the Cherry Bomb is the flop for me. I've tried to give this ball every chance. Tried two different drillings and can't get a good reaction.
