What''s the easiest center where you live?
« on: April 15, 2010, 04:07:26 AM »
Living in a large metro area like Detroit gives me many choices. But what is easiest,
fall down on your face, and still get a strike house?

Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights :If you are a decent bowler and have not
shot a 300 or a 800,go to this house bowl a league for one or two years you will get one.
This house put the THS in THS.

Bowl One in Troy:Used to be a lot harder until they put in new lanes last year. Now
the scores have went through the roof. The guys that would bowl here to help keep
their averages down, now are having a even harder time sandbagging.

Taylor Lanes in Taylor:Home of the PBA when in Detroit. This house turns the lights way
down during league. It''s not that you really need them on.You can score here with
your eyes closed.

Hazel Park Bowl in Hazel Park:Home of the Hamtramck Singles Classic Tournament. So many 300''s and 800''s come out of here each week that they need a accountant to keep track.

Cherry Hill Lanes South in Dearborn Heights:What can I say. Used to be a horrible shot, until
about 11 years ago. They put down the wrong amount of oil at the back and side of
the pattern that year. The MDUSBC came and checks after a rash of honor scores that
they never got before from Cherry Hill.Whoops wrong shot  says MDUSBC Change it.
They tried to change it to the old shot and people freaked. So they made the shot easier
to please everyone that had seen their scores rise in this 8 week period. The rest is history.

Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights:What can I saybowl there especially on a Sunday, and
you will find the meaning of THS.

Century Bowl in Waterford:You can get more cheap thrills from this place the a Disney World.

Woodland Lanes in Livonia:More inflated egos that you can count running around this
place because of the shot. Most of the  higher avg.leagues will not allow  newer bowlers in.
Afraid that they my come in and better them. And take all their money.

Royal Lanes in Warren:Grandma could look good here.More money coming out of this
place because of the shot  than a federal treasury. They don''t want anyone leaving
because they looked bad.

Town and Country Lanes in Westland:They had a league at this house that had 40 teams of 5
until 3 years ago, until infighting tore it  down to about 12 teams.Every team had a least 2/220 average
bowlers And about 85% of the league averaged 200..Fresher backends than you could find in the whole  metro Detroit area.Scores are crazy.

Now most house in the Detroit area are not this easy. Our association high averages for a year
are lower than most major cities. With the amount of bowlers in the area, most houses
don''t have to put down the easiest shot to keep customers.Just a playable shot.

These houses are way above the norm. What houses are easy in your neck of the woods.

In our area (North Dallas), no doubt Plano Super Bowl (synthetic) and Allen Bowl (wood). Tons of honor scores at Plano and considering how few leagues Allen has, alot of honor scores there as well..

Dont get me wrong, there are alot of good bowlers at Plano and they are full with leagues every night of the week, thus one of the reasons why they have so many 300/800s.

I don't think we see an 800 shot every week at Plano Jim....sorry.

And it really depends on who you are bowling with and against.  I've seen some good bowlers really tank this year and some raise their average.

Same for Allen, though I see some weird shots there.  Bowling with kids doesn't make it easier from what I see.

This is so subjective it is useless as a topic.  I have pm'ed the OP for some info which might give me a clue as to how him or anybody can describe "houses" as being easy or not.  It depends on the day and what league is bowling.  Somebody call Sunnybrook up and ask them about their Thursday night league that has been wrangled over by National and local Associations about whether or not it should be considered a Sport league.  Would also like to know if OP considers the Kegel Challenge patterns tough or not as that is what Sunday mornings at 5 Star bowls on.  The list could go on and on about tough shots at these "easy houses" depending on the night and league.

He's strictly talking about the house shots they put out.  The Thursday night shot at Sunnybrook is whacky, but any other day of the week, not so much.  The Sunday morning shot that they run the Kegel at 5 Star wouldn't be easy, but there are other leagues (I think mixed) that run around the same time.  I can't comment on 5 stars house shot, because I've never bowled on it.

There is a small 14-laner in Zeeland Michigan, just outside of Holland that has the potential to have someone shoot 900 multiple times, and if they had the quality of bowlers that bowl in Stevensville or Saginaw, there could be over 100 300's in this house for a season, but Zeeland does not have any sort of decent bowlers and a large populous of their league bowlers are older than the hills!

and I believe the constant in all these houses is using a Kegel Machine.

Matt (the former chink of collegebowling)

Matt,

Zeeland lanes actually usta be what I thought was the Toughest SHot in west Michigan, only cuz untill 2003, they had ball returns that went to the foul line.. and it was extremely wet-dry ( IE plastic would hook hard ).    But once they took out the ball returns you could get left, and they changed up the shot to make it pretty easy ( sometimes / carry down issues )..  The reason it doesnt get alot of bowlers there is because in the GHBA, you have Northland Lanes which if you cant Average 230 there something is wrong.  And you have Century Lanes....     Plus @ Zeeland lanes, they dont have automatic scoring, and no alcohol... but its a nice place to just go bowling at.....

Now as for Easy,,,,,, Northland lanes in Holland, Michigan....  one guy Scott Smith averaged close to 250 for a year, him and his wifey broke the mixed doubles state scoring record there when they shot over 1500, during the State Mix doubles tourny in 08-09

Another guy Kevin Pollock, had 4 800's in about a three week period @ said house, when he hadnt had a single 800 series in the 8 or 9 previous years of bowling in the association..  Two guys broke the city record of 857 that was shot @ century lanes back in like 98 ???  they shot 866 and 869.......

Now I will say, Big Rapids, Michigan is pretty easy too, you almost have to try to throw a gutter ball lol,, cuz boards 1,2,3 are so dry........

And yes most of the places in Grand Rapids, Mi are pretty easy too, so i have heard....

The easiest shot in the Kansas City Metro area is at Gladstone Bowl north of the river. This house was built in the early 1960's as a Brunswick Recreation Center. Gladstone Bowl has more 300 games and 800 series than any other house in town.
