900s, 800s and 300s...
« on: February 14, 2006, 12:33:53 PM »
900 Jeremy Sonnenfeld, Lincoln, Neb., Feb. 2, 1997
Tony Roventini, Milwaukee, Nov. 9, 1998
Vince Wood, Moreno Valley, Calif., Sept, 29, 1999
Robby Portalatin, Jackson, Mich., Dec. 28, 2000
James Hylton, Salem, Ore., May 2, 2001
Jeff Campbell II, New Castle, Pa., June 12, 2004
Darren Pomije, New Prague, Minn., Dec. 9, 2004

Please see above.  1 900 a year until 01.  Then, 2 in 04, now possibly 3(although 1 was denied, 2 others waiting for approval).  The trend is there, it started with 300's, they slowly began in incline in number.  Then, 800's, same thing more and more...  Now, 900's, paying attention to the pattern, it appears that we will be seeing more and more.

I seriously doubt it will come to the point where one will be shot in every house across the country but....the pattern is showing they will become more and more common.

Wasn't Sonnenfeld's unique in that he shot it over three pairs of lanes?

Undoubtedly there will be more and more.  The equipment today makes it possible. I mean people shoot 879, or 859 or something to that affect with a couple 300's and they were like 2 or 3 breaks away from the 900.

I think we'll see the trend increasing.  Hopefully it'll never be as common as perfect games though.

If Sonnenfeld did that it was a great accomplishment. I watched a local bowl 300, the move a pair & shot another 300, then moved a pair & didn't do as well, being on a tournament condition he earned my respect.

Bones said it before. Shooting 900 is like the 4 minute mile. They said it couldn't be done - but once the first guy did it others followed suit. (no Allison discussions please - yes, he'll always be first in my book too...)

Bowled it on a second shift shot, short oil back in the 80's, the abc inspected the lanes and said that the shot did not comply to the 3 unit minimum rule. Allison threw a conventional ball with a weaker release, playing straight up the 3 or 4 board from what I've heard. Still a very controversial decision, as it was surely shot using equipment far behind what is thrown now.

Its not the equipment....ITS THE SHOT.  Most houses put out easy shots because the house bowlers want to score.  That's all its about, my average is higher than yours...BLAH BLAH BLAH.  Take them of the wall and put them on the US Open pattern and see who actually can bowl, the guy who has bowled on the same shot in the same house for nearly 10 years or the PBA exempt member like Chris Barnes.  I would bet that in certain instances some house bowlers in their own house could take Barnes, but put them on the road and see how hard it is.  I personally would like to see the USBC put a rule in effect that mandates rotating patterns that are similiar to the pro's but different in all leagues (including the fun leagues), then we would be able to see who is a good bowler and who is a great bowler.

USBC sure is doing a great job of "restoring integrity" to the game.

First off compairing it to a 4 minute mile is invalid. Even today only the elite athletes run sub 4 miles now in bowling mostly joe paluka's are shooting the 900's not the elite.

Other than Sonnenfeld who have heard about on this list before aor sence.

Second allison's was not shot on short oil. Short oil didn't exiswt at that time and there wasn't a 3 unit min rule till aroudn 1990.

USBC has no chance because the wussy bowlers want there ego's stroked.
