Wrist brace adjustments?
« on: November 18, 2015, 06:42:25 PM »
Do I have it right?
More cup gives more overall movement due to a stronger wrist position
Less cup is less overall movement
Wrist more cocked (fingers closer to body/more angle) ball spins more giving more length and more backend movement
Wrist straighter gives more foreword roll for an earlier and smoother reaction.
If I am wrong, please correct me. And feel free to elaborate. I bought a wrist brace to hopefully prevent myself from pulling a tendon in my thumb anymore. It seems to happen once a year and I can't figure out why. I try to not grip the ball. I use a piece of white tape to help the ball hold onto my thumb a little better so I don't have to grip it. I focus on letting my thumbnail touch the thumb slug to help relax it. My drilling is spot on as I just had it rechecked. (Middle finger could be stretched 1/32 of an inch if I wanted and ring finger needed stretched 1/16 of an inch.)

Spot on.  I tend to have better luck adjusting for the spin than the cupping. For me, too much on the cupped wrist and I top the ball. You will learn what works for you, but wanted to throw you my experiences.

You mentioned your span being correct. Was this measured with the brace on as well? You may also want to look into double checking your pitches.

He checked pitches too. I didn't know a brace would change things. I just started using a brace for the first time last night. It felt different

I do not believe the change with or without the brace is significant. Cupping or cocking your wrist more or less changes your span some. Clearly not enough to require a new drilling.

I can not get my thumb out of the ball when I use white tape. I use the smooth black tape.

Change in spans depends on the glove used.  Some can require 1/16 " -3/32" reduction in spans to fit properly.  Always wear your glove when being fitted.  --  JohnP
