Wrist Brace for a woman help???
« on: March 21, 2012, 06:58:27 PM »
Finally convinced my fiance' to bowl and she's got a new ball drilled just right and everything.  I have been working with her for the last few weeks and she's up to a 126 average, which is pretty good since she's just starting and never thrown a finger tip drilled ball.  What has become apparent to me is she doesn't have the wrist strength to stay under the ball to then  rotate correctly (she attempts to spin the ball).

There are a lot of braces out there, of which I know little about since I don't use one.  So my question is what would be a good brace to help her out with this problem.  I don't care about price if it means it will help her out.  Do keep in mind she has a small hand and wrist.  Thanks for the help!

Have a similar problem on my monday night league...female bowler using finger tip for the first time.  She was complainig of a sore wrist, we tried a simple wrist brace and that didn't work for her, so we went to using athletic tape and that has agreed with her more. Just wrap the wrist a few times and that should do the trick.

She doesn't have a soreness problem, just lacks the strenghth to keep a strong wrist position through the down swing so she has a tendancy to spin the ball as opposed to rolling it.

A cheaper route would be the Ebonite Pro Form glove which gives some support if you leave the metal strip on the back of the glove. My wife uses a  Storm Gadget which is a brace and most women love them, after adjusting  to the glove. Any of the braces are somewhat restrictive but a great training tool. The glove is $20 range and the braces are about $75. A pro shop sometimes will let you try one out before you buy.

Most of the people around here use the Mongoose braces.

For a weak wrist, this is probably the best.  It is also adjustable.
