Need some help; weak hitting ball
« on: April 03, 2011, 05:06:57 AM »
Here is the problem. More often than I'd like, I throw a ball that hooks up nicely, hits a little light and I leave pockets splits 5-7...4-5. I have a low track but don't throw a spinner and throw about 14.5 mph. Can someone help me out??

There's really not enough information for anyone to help you logically.
Your balls are not driving when they hit the pocket area. It could be too strong a ball, it could be too weak a ball. The drilling could be too strong or too weak or the surface might not be right.
Tell us what balls you're using, how they are drilled, what your PAP, axis tilt, ball peed and rotation is, tell us if the balls have the stock surface or if modified, how. Tell us how much oil you're bowling on , what type of lane surface is it?

Tell us what ball does work and how it is drilled.

THS mostly. PAP 4 5/8 over 1/4 up (right handed). Using Ebonite NV and Motiv QZ1. OOB finish on both. Pin over middle finger on NV (long pin). QZ1 has pin over ring. Relaxed span, zero pitch on thumb. 14.5 mph. Axis rotation about 15 degrees. Little tilt as far as I can tell.

15 degree axis rotation says it all.....Try getting at least to 40-60 degrees and it will help you tremendously.....15 degrees axis rotation is going to roll early and have nearly no backend and hit like you are describing unless you are pointing it at the pocket. You want the ball to get into a roll just before it gets to the pins not half way down the lane....

Thanks. I guess to do that I would have to get around the ball at release.

Yes sir!! I would work on getting your ball more around the ball. Keep your hand from getting on top of the ball though that is what will cause you to spin the ball like a top...Here is a link to Tommy Jones release in slow motion, there are other pros releases links on the right of the video as well. I would watch those and use try to best emulate the hand positions.....
