Wrist soreness/stiffness
« on: May 20, 2005, 07:59:45 AM »
Since my league finished up I took a month or so off from bowling.  Since then, I've been going one night a week and bowling 3-4 games.  The next day I'm getting some wrist soreness and stiffness.

I'm only 23 years old and don't want to do any sort of long-term damage to my wrist, but I'm not really big on the idea of wearing a bulky wrist support either.  Is there anything out there that is less conspicuous, perhaps a wristband-type device, that might help me out?  Any other suggestions would also be greatly appreciated.

Hey RDR,

If you just want to wear a brace of some sort.  Master makes a wrist band called "Master Wrister" that is pretty good or you can also try a splint.  The splint ties your wrist and forearm tendons/ligaments down to help stop them from expanding and contracting too much which is where the soreness usually comes from.

I'd also recommend having your span and/or pitches checked out. You're showing a very typical sign of either a span that's too long which forces you to squeeze to hang on (kind of holding up a mattress) or the pitches may be incorrect which can also be causing you to do this.  Unless of course you have a physical ailment that is already causing your wrist to be weak, then the weight of the ball may be a little too much.  Hope this helps you some...

Thanks tenpinspro...

I don't have any sort of physical ailments, and I'm a pretty strong guy, so I don't think that's the problem.  I guess I'll have to get my span and pitches checked out.  Thanks for the advice.  I appreciate it.

Did you have this pain during leagues ?   If not, and you didn't change balls, where a span thing would be my first guess, then it's something you have/have not done since league ended.

Lack of use ? Different type of use ? are you doing something different at home ? work ?..even something as simple gardening, new to the muscle workout can cause a change in the tone and pain.

If it's not a span ( after having it rechecked) , then maybe a visit to your Dr might be next ?

RDR, I would first get the span and pitches checked like tenpinspro said. If the span is OK, but the problem still exists, then you might want to try a wrist device. I used to use a Moro Extended Pro Release. I had a bit of problem with soreness depending how many games I bowled. I wore it out and bought a Robbys II early this year. I've had problems with wrist soreness ever since I bought it. Three weeks ago I got out my old Robbys Gladitor that I wore for several years, and tried it. Results? No more wrist pain because this wrist device locks your wrist, arm and hand tight enough that you can't move them.
Also my revs and accuracy have improved.

Now, this won't help your finger pain It will only help your wrist pain. Finger pain almost has to be related to your span and pitches.

The Robbys Gladitor is still available today.
