I have several braces, including the Mongoose Lifter and some of the "robo-braces." I'm not having to use them at the moment, but I will again if my wrist flares up.
The Lifter is a nice brace, comfy to wear, but it is limiting. I have a hard time doing anything besides coming up the back of the ball. If that's already your style, go for it. It will probably work for you.
The most comfortable brace for me is the Robby's Revs I, which is a robo-brace. I barely feel it when I have it on and I can play close to my regular shot line with it.
My advice is to not care what others might think about it or whether it's "robo" or not and get what (a) is comfortable and (b) allows you to bowl without pain. Those should be the only two considerations. The Lifter doesn't always keep my wrist from hurting the next day, but with the Revs I, I can bowl all week and be fine.
