Anyone ever make the drop from 15 to 14 lbs?
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:04:51 AM »
Over the past year, I've seen a significant drop in my speed-from 18.3 mph to 15.5.  Strangley, my rev rate has stayed the same.  I've tried holding the ball higher, higher backswing and even moving further back on the approach and it's not getting me back to where I was...

so, whoever has made the change-how has it worked out so far?  Most importantly, have you seen any changes in hitting power/deflection?

Thanks, and this is what I'm hoping for.  Like I said hopefully I will be able to through the theory this weekend.  If I can get a great feel, good carry and most importantly little to no pain in the wrist...I'm going be posting a lot of 15lb balls for sale.

I bowled my third set yesterday since dropping from 16 to 14 and dropping my Robby's Rev. I bowled 9 games. No pain in my hip. My ball speed was up 2 mph based on Quibica. I bowled several games over 200. Still not consistent on my release but getting much better. No problems or complaints with the 14 lb weight.

For a short while last season I dropped from 15 to 14. Had a couple of used balls.  Within a few weeks of bowling with them I had some pretty high sets for the season.   If I didn't have an enormous about of blank 15s, I probably would drill a few 14s and throw them for a while.

I did notice some funky leaves at times where the ball hit strange.   Most light hits carried the same but the sound and strength of the hits were different than those of 15lb hits.

If you bowl in a center that has pins that move around well,  nice tight flat gutters and side walls and solid pin decks you shouldn't see much change in carry.

If you bowl in a place that has old worn out pins,  or dead flats and side walls you may see more "strange" leaves.

Welcome to the world of 14# carry. You can be convinced that 14# is the answer on one shot, and then it breaks your heart on the next. As always, throw the highest weight you can comfortably handle. If 14# is the answer, there is little else to think about or discuss. Health and comfort trump all else.

Very true.  I hope I finally get the chance to throw the 14 I picked up this week.
