Wrist support/Liz Johnson
« on: March 13, 2016, 04:01:11 PM »
Does anyone know what wrist support Liz Johnson is wearing? It looks like an Ebonite Z-Loc 4 but I can't tell for sure.

Thanks

If the wrist devices are such an advantage, why are all the top pro's not wearing one?

I agree :-)

I have to go against this point. Just because that most top pro's do not wear them, you leap to the conclusion that it is okay for a wrist device.

You all know it takes a lot of time and effort to develop an excellent release at a professional level. By slapping on that device, a person can eliminate most of the issues and struggles that one goes through without the support. Yes the a person gives up some versatility by wearing one, however, there  are a lot of bowling balls and layouts out there that make up for that.

There arguments on both sides for these devices.

My opinion is they should be banned at the professional level.

So a pro bowler is putting themselves at a disadvantage by using a wrist device, but it should be banned?

So our goal here is to retain "most of the issues and struggles that one goes through", at that level?  Avoiding those issues/struggles IS the tangible benefit of them?  That is your point, correct?

*Edit:  No, I do not use one and never have.

They are?
Liz is the first pro I've heard about that uses such a crutch. And because of that, I don't like her.
I thought there was a rule against those crutches in pba, so asked Tore T about it.

Belmonte, Barnes, Tackett, Tom, Duke and many others I've seen but don't remember the name of doesn't use any crutches.
Two handing isn't a crutch.
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.

[point being made][sarcasm]
I have an idea, ban those silly shoes with the interchangeable soles. Bowlers should have to learn to deal with the approaches, no matter what the conditions. Those expensive shoes are just a crutch.

Ban two-handed bowling. They should learn the proper way to bowl, with one hand, like I do.

The no thumbers have to go too. What the hell are they thinking? Can't they just learn how to bowl like real bowlers?

And don't even get me started on those cheating left handers...

Also, no more plastic or urethane spare balls. Learn to flatten your wrist and throw it straight. Balls that go straight are just a crutch.

And no more multiple ball bags. Use one ball, and only black, because that's what I LIKE and besides, having more than one ball is just a crutch.

And no using tape in thumbholes, on fingers or anywhere on the bowling hand. It's just a crutch and a real bowler would just learn to bowl instead of relying on such gimmicky non-sense.

While we are at it, everyone should have the exact same drilling in their ball. No thumb slugs or finger inserts either. Learn to bowl the way I do dammit.

And you can only drink Budweiser during league play. I like Budweiser and there is no reason to for anyone to drink anything else. Drinking water, soda or any other brand of beer is just a crutch.

Now keep those darn kids off my lawn...

Milos arguement makes no sense.  accoring to milo a golfer should only have a bag of 7 irons, but it would ok strap a machine to me that swung perfectly every single time.
Those who can't bowl, bowl with two hands.

There are a lot of talented bowlers who have weak wrists. Basically to prevent further injuries to themselves.
I will agree with you that it should be banned at a PROFESSIONAL LEVEL along with reactive resin balls, high performance cores. Let's ban two handed bowling as well. I'm all for that. As you said what sport allows for the extra help. Baseball? same wound up string over a cork center with a leather hide for the last 80 years. Ya, tell every one it needs to revolutionize. Bowling as you know it REVOLUTIONIZED it self to the laugh factory as a used to be a sport.
Now we have bowling equipment that hooks right off your hands. You don't need a wrist support for that extra help when you have a dynamically imbalanced high performance core to create the entry angle to cover thirty boards for you.
For many years when Wrist Master was king many of the Pros used it. Many on telecast used them and even removed the metal supports because it hindered their releases.
I'm all for banning no thumb bowlers too. Many of them couldn't figure out how to pick up lousy corner pin or double wood

Oh hell no, not a bag of 7 irons, ONLY one 7 iron, cause that's all I use. Anything else is just a crutch.  :P

Since some have brought up golf, I see the wrist support in the PBA no different than the belly putters in the PGA. PGA banned belly putters.

I enjoy watching bowling, and when I see Liz or any other female bowler (with a wrist device) winning a tournament on TV, I don't get upset over it!

It is just my view on the subject.

And those Belly Putters enabled how many golfers to participate in the sport that wouldn't otherwise be able to?

Belly putters aren't illegal.  Anchoring the club is.

And your view is every professional that wears a wrist device wouldn't be able to bowl.

I don't think that number is at 100%.
