I'm a natural right hander who has always bowled left-handed.  I play every sport right-handed, except bowling and pool.

I'm starting to get tendonitis in my left arm (which hurts like hell) and no matter how many times I take a break and treat it, it eventually comes back.

I'm seriously considering starting to throw with my right hand, but I'm concerned that I'll just end up getting tendonitis in my right arm.  I've only been bowling regularly for about 4 years.

I'm 47 years old so I'm thinking that the tendonitis is just a function of age more than anything else and switching hands will just be an incredible waste of time.

I used to throw right-handed all the time when I was bowling against my two sons so they'd have a chance to beat me.  It wasn't that hard, but I'd guess it would take me at least a year to get up to speed.

Any thoughts from others who've dealt with injuries on here?

I'm going through the same thing with the tendonitis.  Mine is in the right wrist and index finger.  So instead of bowling less, I got a ball drilled for my left hand.  Works great for me and I get the fun of learning to bowl all over again.  I've bowled maybe 10 games total with my left hand and I'm rolling around 110 average.  

Good part is that my right hand gets time off to rest up so I'm not hurting on league night when I need it.  I still haven't got good enough with my left hand that I would be comfortable rolling in a league that way.  Or maybe I should...bet I would get the most improved average.

It may be an age thing but also could be something else. It could be your span,pitches,squeezeing the ball etc... Take your equipment to your ball driller and tell them the pain you are having. Also may be a good idea to go to a sports doctor.

edit: had tendonitis in my forearm years ago and it ended up being that the span was to long.

Doesn't matter...as to drilling may be too stretched.

Converting....it's a bit_h!!

I wish I had tried no thumb or two handed right handed before I switched!

But despite the difficulty in sparing.....(lots of practice required all the time).  Switching has worked out pretty profitably for me!

I wouldn't do it though unless you lost your arm!

Well, I don't want to discourage any left handed bowler from converting to the 'real bowlers' side, but your arm health is the more important thing.  

Don't get discouraged about the tendonitis. Regardless of what you've been told, with the right therapy and a little bit of rest, you can beat it. Check out the following therapies:

I tried everything before using the above two techniques. I went from barely being able to lift a ball in November 2008 to being a functional hack again by March 2009.

Focus on the soft tissue therapies. I first tried a few months of traditional physical therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture with little (if any) improvement. I did more research and found out about ASTYM and ART. Three months of intensive therapy, and I'm 90% there.

Soft tissue therapies work.
