Anybody tried the Bowlculator?
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:48:59 PM »
My spare game has never been what it should, but lately I am at my all time low for spare shooting. I just can't seem to get lined up for corners especially.

I have seen the bowlculator for a good while and never considered buying one. I figured it was just common knowledge. However, I must have lost mine. I need help. Anyone tried it and have feedback?

Well, when I was half way decent at shooting spares I used plastic and threw my normal release. Since then I have tried to learn how to throw completly straight at all spares. This is why I am having the hard time. I just can't get the angles right.

Have you looked into the triax spare system? If you throw straight at spares it should be a good fit for you.

One thing I will say is pick a spare system and really practice it (just spares - no strikes).  Down the road, you may find that you need to modify it slightly because every bowler is different.  I was married to standing on a certain board for 10 pins but someone told me to move the whole production over a few and it worked.

If you practice the spares a lot you will get better.  Just don't get too frustrated if you are missing them when practicing because that's why you are practicing.  Once you get frustrated it is really hard to focus and throw a ball straight...

I am kind of in the same boat which is why I chimed in.  After practicing the spares more heavily, the percentages are going up in league.

I personally never got spare "systems". At least not for people who throw the ball straight at spares.

If you throw it straight, then just throw it straight. Of course you would shot across the lane at the corner pins to give yourself more lane surface to hit the pin, but still, throw it straight at the pin.

One thing that has always bothered me are people who claim they can't throw the ball straight. With exceptions to anyone with an actual physical limitation, some young guys I bowl with can't seem to take any hand out of the ball or just simply come up the back of it. Sorry for the rant, its just annoying.

Challenge some bowler you know for a game of 5,10,15. You get 5 points for the 2 and 3 pin, 10 for the 4 and 6 pin, and 15 for the corners. The head pin is equal to a gutter ball.

Systems are a starting point.

And for someone who has a problem throwing the ball straight it would be a good idea to check with a coach to see if there are any timing issues etc.

You have to pick 1 way to shoot your spares and stay with it don't do it one way for a while and then another way also follow through is extremly important when using a plastic ball to shoot spares. I would suggest as someone else said use 2 or 3 games to shoot nothing but spares try to get lined up where you start at same place every time and have a target like I use arrows I start with my left foot on board 37 walk on a diagional line and target board 20 works great for me using the arrows is better than looking all the way down to 10 pin practice it it will be worth it , really doesn't matter what type of release you use with plastic just make sure it is the same same all the time hope this helps

Thanks for all responses. I was hoping someone had tried the bowlculator that could chime in. I have no problem going back to using plastic and using my normal release. I just wanted to learn something new.
