Shot change coming next week at our place...
« on: November 13, 2009, 02:23:05 PM »
First of all, thank goodness, because what we've been getting is hideously easy. Too many honor scores this year.

Now the question: I've asked what the shot was, and what it will be. I've been told two things about what it was, either 37 feet or 39 feet (my take: It's 37 feet). Our oil machine is a Kegel Kustodian and the house allegedly gets the pattern from Kegel, so I'm assuming the patterns are from the Navigation series. I was also told the new pattern "would still be recreational."

A quick check of the patterns, though, reveals that the Recreational series doesn't have a 37- or a 39-foot pattern. The shortest is 38. Allegedly, the pattern change will take some of the oil from the middle, redistribute it to the outside, raise the overall volume and then lengthen to 40 feet. That doesn't seem to describe anything in the recreational category. The biggest problem we've had all year is there's just no volume to the patterns, so everything breaks down quickly and winning is based on how good your dry-lane equipment is.

Anyone have any idea what we'll be on?

Jess

Can't say for sure, but the center I used to work at put out the Kegel recreational patterns and scores went down.  They were too wet/dry and the complaints were abudant.  I think our THS is more similar to one of the challenge patterns with alittle more oil to the inside.

Sounds like it may be Broadway in the challenge series. That's the easiest pattern in that series.

I enjoyed Kegel's Middle Earth on 5 year old synthetic enough volume with some medium speed.....bowlers could actually use their hook monsters ie. VG's, Cells, etc.  Decent shots were rewarded spray and pray were not.

Bowled on it tonight. I'm thinking we now have either Main Street or High Street down (last one was probably Easy Street at a low volume). Whatever it is now is also low-volume. Guys who have been spraying it across the middle were pretty lost. The extra 2-4 feet on the end of the pattern (we went downlane and walked it off and found it to now be around 41-42 feet) had some guys scratching their heads. Best look was straight up 5-7. If you swung it out from there, you'd best have some hand.

I'd say scores were down about 10 pins on average, except for the guys who could square up. Some of them actually picked up. I went 661 and that was about as good as I really bowled. Didn't get a lot of trash but I didn't get robbed much, either.
