Slingshot v Tropical Breeze
« on: March 31, 2012, 05:07:44 AM »
Hoping someone who has thrown both can compare for me? Needing a very weak reactive and after some research came down to these. Which is the stronger? Is there a difference in the Tropical Breeze solid and pearl?

Look into the Lane #1 Chainsaw SOS....it is the best dry lane ball I have ever thrown. I have it under my Midnight Vibe and it is super clean and very smooth. Drilled mine 45x5.25x40 and have bowled great with it when those conditions arise.....I am actually thinking about a Cyclone to replace my Midnight Vibe...I love that coverstock...

My Arsenal:

Nano.............................55x4.25x45..........500/2000
Taboo Jet Black.............55x4x70.............4000
Nomad Solid..................60x4.5x35...........1500 polished
Versamax........................65x5x30...............OB
Pink Panther Pearl..........60x4.5x40...........OB, 6421 2x compound+polish
Chainsaw SOS................45x5.25x40........OB, 4000 polished
Taboo Spare...................50x4x30.............OB

Have you done any comparison between the Chainsaw and the Slingshot or the Tropical Breeze?

Forgot about that ball....the SOS
unless you are somewhat heavy handed or on the desert, that ball goes straight

Almost bought one a few times, just couldnt pay the 150 or whatever they were at the time.
buddy had one and he was up the back of the ball mostly and it just went straight for him.
I ended up with the JET and had no reason to look elsewhere
Before the JET, I used a yellow-dot bleeder for years at this old wood lane house
killed em with that thing, before that was the blue rotostar, that was a great ball

Slingshot should be a tad weaker. Just ask your driller to tone the hook down a bit for you.
If you're really looking for something a bit more predictable, there's nothing wrong with urethane. It really does depend on the individual  though, as I have seen some guys really get some hook out of urethane, or even plastic!

Wow! I am reading these posts and shaking my head wildly. These posts are from people who know bowling....but the results for me don't add up! Either I have extremely slow ball speed or I am more rev-dominant than I thought!

I have a Cyclone solid, yellow/orange/black which I cannot use on medium or light. I have to use it on med-heavy. I have tried the Slingshot which hooks a ton in my hands, with a pin over ring layout. I think my best bet is to try urethane, based on what I am reading here.

Yup! Sounds like you are more rev dominant than I am.
I have a pin over ring Slingshot and it's just arcs and arcs on dry lanes (well as dry as will allow a resin ball to be used).

A friend who recently got a pro shop (last Fall) has a solid Cyclone for me. Not sure how I'll drill it.
It seems to be a medium-light to medium oil ball. Can't imagine how you used it on medium-heavy with 4000+polish stock surface.

Jesse,

It's taken me 2+ years to get my speed and rev rate more closely matched. I'm still slightly rev dominant, but I've also reduced my tilt slightly. It's a lot of work and a depressed overall average, but it's slowly (VERY SLOWLY) paying dividends. Don't give up! Keep working at it.

Try the Avalanche Urethane. I put the pin over the center of the bridge (5.5" pin-PAP for me), and it's very mild.
