X-Outs Legal for USBC Sanctioned Competition?

In a discussion with another BR member, I was told that x-outs are not allowed in USBC sanctioned league or tournament play and that any honor scores shot using an x-out would be disallowed.  Is this true?  This would appear to be very difficult to legislate, especially if the ball meets static weight rules.

I recall using an x-out to finish T-7 in Classified All-Events at USBC Nationals in 2007, but the rules may have changed since then.  (OK, that was in Classified division, but they didn't ask about division at check-in.)

Does anybody know the current rules?

To my knowledge they are perfectly legal.  I order alot of x-outs for my customers looking for high end stuff at a cheap price.  9 out of 10 times they have easily drillable specs.  I've also had numerous "honor scores" with x-out stuff.

As long as the X-Outs meet the USBC requirements, then they are good to go. Sometimes X-Outs have a wide range of reasons why they are X-Outs. Some could be as simple as color issue. I know personally I have a 9"Pin on a X-Out ball which I still bring to the Open Championship each year since... you have to have old faithful around ;D

Yeap, I support what's already been said.  If you can get the static weights to meet the tolerance, you can throw whatever you want.

Yes they are very legal. Most are color blems, label blems, some are pin to far out or pin/cg/mb not inline. It is the same ball just minor defects. That is why the do not need to be listed separate from the current approved bowling balls. The ball is the same, only it doesn't meet quality for being a first line ball.

I would say if the ball is stamped with a USBC# then it would be legal.
X-out or not.
