What is the actual weight range for a 15# ball?


Is it 15# minimum? Or?

Well to get snarky on Ebay 15.95lb is often #15 in the description.  I would say best to round up for more than a few ounces of top weight above a number and give the true weight in the description.

I've seen balls listed a 15 lb. range from 14 lb. 12 oz, to 15 lb. 8 oz.
For 16 lb. balls, I've seen as high as 16 lb. 5 oz.
For 14 lbs, I've seen the same range, from 13 lb. 12 oz to 14 lb. 8 oz.

Considering that drilling, fingers and weight holes can remove anything from 1.5 oz to as much as 5 oz., these ranges should result in a reasonable final weight.

Or, was this a trick question?

Pretty much 14-14 to 15-6.  Manufacturing target is, or used to be, 15-1 to 15-4.  Anything under 15 you will probably find to be a little smaller if you have a ring to measure.  They might have been dinged or had a blemish and spent some extra time on the grinder.

Not a trick at all. I listed a ball as 15# on eBay(as it was sold to me a few years ago), but the buyer says it's 14 Lbs 13 oz.

The ball doesn't have the original box, so I should have weighed it, so my bad on that. I was just curious as I remember hearing that there was a range on what a is considered the weight range of a 15# ball really could weight and still be considered 15#.

That would be sold as a 15 pound ball.  That's pretty light, definitely gonna be a little small.  With it being that light even somebody with no feel is going to notice that being light.  Most people don't notice 3 oz. difference but when you get up into 5-6 oz. from most of their other balls most people will notice.

Yea, I should have weighed the ball instead of just listing it as a 15# ball since I didn't have the box. I bought it originally as a 15# a couple of years ago but never checked.

True, but this one is on me. I got screwed when I didn't check the ball from the original seller and it didn't have the original box.

So I should have checked before listing.

Yes, you probably should have given the exact weight (given his ignorant reaction) , but, that ball must be considered to be a "15" lb. ball, emphasis on the quotes.

According to Storms MANUFACTURING DEFINITIONS

GROSS WEIGHT: Weight Class
Heavy (H):  12-15 ounces / Medium (M):  8-11 ounces / Light (L):  0-7 ounces


So a 14 Lbs 13 oz. ball would be a "Heavy (H)" 14lb ball.
