Bones, as usual you are right on target.
No one system works for everyone. The best of the best walk away from the best teachers taking a few ideas they can incorporate into an already good game.
However, there are some fundamentals that have been proven over the decades to work the best for the largest number of people - things like a 4 or 5 step approach, ending on the opposite foot from the ball hand, etc.
I happen to have a very textbook style, and it works for me on the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) principle. The fewer strange things about the game, the fewer variables. I can understand why this method won't work for some, but it works for me.
